Re: New Mac Pro Case for PC, is this real?
It looks like they've entirely tried to mimic the aesthetics but not the thermal design hence I don't see it as a useful effort. If they were to be very clever with integrated heatsinks that then this could have outshone the Mac Pro by being customisable but this is just a knock-off and likely to le...

Did you solve the cpu_fan RPM reporting issue with LM_SENSORS? Still no fan speed. Google brings up nothing that close to this problem for this specific motherboard range. It's not urgent, it doesn't stop me from using the system obviously but it would be nice to see. I haven't reached out to any o...

Re: Smallest ITX Case for this setup (without a graphic card
I'm not sure I see the point of an ATX PSU for a low power build like this. If making it small really is everything then trying to fit in an ATX PSU makes things much larger. A PicoPSU would work fine for the low power components you are talking about. What SSD do you intend to use? If small size is...

Re: Getting a software based 3 pin fan cooler?
Have you got any spare fan headers on the motherboard? It depends upon your motherboard and what speed control it offers but try Speedfan if you run Windows and see what happens. Something else to ask before you do anything though: Why do you need a fan for your RAID controller? Any problems when ru...

150mm depth for a PSU of this power is unusual too. Most of them are 160mm+. Wonder who the OEM is as Silverstone appear to chop and change OEMs on different products. Their current fanless offerings are rebadged Seasonics for example.

A cheaper mod would be to remove the stock fans and use a set of quieter 120mm fans in place. Gelid do a graphics card 4-pin PWM adaptor so that you can run any PWM fan in place. I have one of these on a different card.

Re: Convert ASUS DIRECTCU II to ASUS STRIX 0dB
Well you could mod a CPU cooler to fit a graphics card. If you absolutely don't care about having spare expansion slots then this is possible. There are a lot of examples that will come up if you Google. I'm sure you could come up with something like your quadruple slot twin fan example. A top down ...

How well does it work with your Zotac GTX 950 graphics card? Do you plan to drill some holes for improved airflow on your chassi? I'm thinking of drilling some holes in the top panel. Either do it as one big hole and then cover it with a grill or many small holes to match the pattern on the side of...

I won't even try to compete with your numbers as my house is more than 3X the m^2 and has a family of 5 living in it. Thanks for considering the same concept as me! Where I would be concerned is the 3.5" HDD and the GTX 960 being in there together. You are not going to have that quiet a system I don't think. The GTX 960 might well be beyond what can be cooled in the Metis without modifications to the top of the cas...

1) According to the manufacturers manual, you could add a 3,5 HDD over the rear fan, the place you currently have covered with the GPU cooler. Do you see any issues with getting the 3,5 in if sacrificing the GPU? You can add a 3.5" HDD there but I wouldn't think it will be good for silence. The HDD...

You don't really need the backplate, you can install the cooler without it and the standard screws will just stand about 20mm proud. Alternatively you can do as I did and install the cooler without the backplate by using some of the shorter screws included in the box which are intended for mounting ...

Yes, big for MiniITX and as big as many MicroATX cases. Not as big as the BitFenix Prodigy perhaps but then that is about the biggest MiniITX case there is. Can't help feeling that without the watercooling support it would be a better case for normal use.

Check the latest SPCR review, it's a pretty good "proof". No it is not good proof. It shows one motherboard is bad, the other is SPCR recommended. Both are MiniITX. mITX boards are not as good as µATX ones. How do you judge that they are "not as good"? If you want something smaller, they are much better. If you need more than one expansion slot, they are not. If cost is a major issue then uATX is slightly cheaper but there are different arguments each way depe...

It's focus seems to be on watercooling which results in it being big for MiniITX. It's rated at 26.8 litres but include protrusions and it's up to 28.8 litres. That's bigger than many MicroATX cases.

Re: Asus 9-series, you can't read cpu core temp, really?
I don't think you have something quite right here. The chassis fan headers definitely won't be controlled based on the CPU onboard core temp sensor. Most likely thing I see is that you somehow have the CPU and chassis fan headers confused. Swap them around and the logic you describe would be fixed.

Better get rid of it then. You'll free up a few watts, start up noise and time but more importantly get rid of a whole load of clutter.pcbuilder wrote:I do indeed have an optical drive but haven't used it in years so getting rid of it wouldn't make much of a difference.

Probably can't make the 20% load efficiency stick. Or with 80+ Titanium - 10% load efficiency. That's where the stumbling block may be. So maybe the fanless models mentioned by THG will be Platinum only. I would however expect some improvement over the existing Seasonic fanless in efficiency but no...

Every UPS I have ever seen hums. What I would first ask though is what the use case is? If it's for work and it's mission critical that you need power then put the UPS is another room and run a power cable through so that the hum is out of earshot.
