Another question if you don't mind. ;) If I was to use this Dual USB 2.0 10pin Backplate , could I still connect the Kama Card Reader? The motherboard has " up to 12 USB 2.0/1.1 ports (4 on the back panel, 8 via the USB brackets connected to the internal USB headers) ". So if I understand correctly ...

Advice needed on Mini Ninja's fan positioning & Centurio

Hi guys. :) My new (and first) build: - Coolermaster Centurion 5 case + Coolermaster 550w eXtreme PSU. - Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H motherboard. - Athlon 5000+ Black Edition that I intend to overclock to 3.10gHz (~75W). - Case fan: Scythe Splistream 1200 that I'll probably undervolt (couldn't get a 800)...

I think I'm gonna go for the Hitachi DeskStar 7K160 - hard drive - 160 GB - SATA-300.

Hitachi seem to have a decent reputation over here and looks much faster than my Maxtor.

Please let me know if you have any experience with this drive. ;)

Good point, sorry I hadn't spotted that, sorry! No worries. :) Did you try searching this forum for opinions on the WDxxxAAJS (which is available in 80GB)? I think that's the earlier model. Or try finding an LJ Samung on e-Bay or similar. So many threads and posts... :? Are you dead set on a 3.5" d...

Thanks for the reply, nutball. :)

The cheapest WD****AAKS I could find at eBuyer is the WD2500AAKS Caviar SE 250GB at £42.81.
A bit more than I wanted to spend, considering 250GB would be much more than what I'll need for OS+Program files. :?

Any other suggestion? ;)

P.S: if it increases the chances of getting a quiet/fast drive I'd be willing to go to a 160GB. :)

3.5" 80GB SATA for OS & Program files

Hi all :) I was wondering if you could advise me as to which 3.5" 80GB SATA drive to get (preferably from eBuyer.com ). I don't need anything bigger than 80GB as it will be used as a OS + Program Files drive. For reference point, anything faster and/or quieter than a Maxtor 6Y080M0 . ;) Thanks in ad...

Thanks for this detailed reply, nitram_tpr, I appreciate it. :) Changing the fan on a brand new PSU sounds like a pointless excercise to me :( Is the PSU that comes with this case known for it's excessive noise? I haven't managed to find any review/data about the PSU noise unfortunately. The Centuri...

Hello Rewdoalb, and thanks for the reply. :) 1. From some of the articles I've seen, you may want to combine your motherboard with an ATI card. The new 780G hybrid chipset combines the power of the integrated graphics with that of the dedicated card for optimum graphics performance. So, maybe consid...

Hi all. :)

Sorry to revive this old thread but I'm quite surpised it didn't get more attention.
Especially considering the "silent" factor and current price of SDHC cards. :?

Any specific reason as to why most SPCReviewers don't seem interested by the idea?

Ok, here is where it's at so far... - Coolermaster Centurion 5 + 550W eXtreme Power Plus PSU : £69.99 - Scythe S-Flex 120mm Ultra Quiet Fan - 1600RPM - 3&4pin connection : £13.45 Do you think it'd be worth getting a second Scythe S-Flex 120mm to replace the PSU one? Would adding a 80mm intake fan ...

A couple more questions if you don't mind, nitram_tpr. :) - How much (if anything) would I be sacrificing in terms of upgradability if I was to go the AMD route? - I read on the Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H 780G spec sheet that it has SPDIF out/ in headers. Does this mean I could use an optical digital in...

Thanks for the reply, Martin. :) Does it have to be INTEL? You could get the motherboard, the on-board graphics will handle H264 decoding perfectly. It also has the ability to provide 2 outputs for your monitors. If you add another graphics card you can then output to 4. it also has a full HDMI conn...

Hi all. :) First of all I'd like to thank the SPCR creators and community for providing such great help and information. :thumbs-up: Now for my observation and suggestion: The forum stretches 100% of the browser window (XP Pro / IE6, Opera 9.2, Firefox 2). First custom build. I could really do with some advice. :)

Hi all. :) My Dell Dimension 4700 (I know) is on its last leg and I've decided to replace it with a custom build PC. It is my first custom build so I could really do with some advice. As a self-employed web-designer I spend hours every day working at the computer, so I'd like it to be as quiet as po...
