Re: Why the lack of talk on Haswell undervolting
I'm coming from AMD Phenom II territory, where undervolting during idle made a big difference. I've moved to Haswell G3258, and it's been a whole 'nother world for me to learn. Correct me if I'm wrong, but with the C3/C6/C7 C-states, there is no point anymore in enabling dynamic frequency, C1E, or E...

Intel Pentium G3258 - does yours reduce voltage at idle?
My G3258 stays pegged on one voltage on both Gigabyte and MSI B85 chipset motherboards despite my making sure C1E, EIST, and Intel C-State settings are enabled in the BIOS. And in Windows, "Balanced" Power profile is selected. So I'm wondering if the G3258 even supports dropping voltage during idle?...

Or just let Cool N Quiet handle things, I generally don't even worry about the extra 0.005V of undervolt I might get. Plus you get full speed when needed. It's silly to pick out components specifically for power-saving and then ignore the potential of dynamic undervolting. But from your comments, i...

The Asus one has fixed fan speedo f 2000 rpm's and its loud, had horrible sound quality and tonality. You definately want to change that so maybe your best bet it is His? But Asus card drops core voltage from 1,25v to 0,9v. I don't know about HIS' HIS does drop to 0.9v at idle, and the fan is quiet...

I bought a Powercolor 4350 from Newegg and it has Powerplay enabled (clock speeds change--it says voltage changes). Of course an interesting problem. Run it at any HD-specific resolution, and it runs at full speed. :( What are the voltages at idle and load? And can you use RBE to further tweak the ...

How do you know that Power Play is not enabled? I used RBE (Radeon Bios Editor) to look at the profiles on my Powercolor HD3450, and they're all set at 1.1v. Wasn't able to change it either. Only thing the card does is drop the GPU speed from 600Mhz to 300Mhz during idle. If there's a known way to ...

Which HD4350 cards actually have PowerPlay enabled?
Despite PowerPlay being advertised as a feature of the HD3450, I found that most video card manufacturers didn't bother enabling that feature to lower the voltage. And both HD3450 cards I tried still ended up increasing my idle wattage by 15W. Is this still the case with HD4350 cards? If not, which ...

Lowest wattage HDMI+DVI PCIe video card?
I'm looking for a low power, fanless HDMI+DVI PCIe video card...one that will give me the lowest idle wattage possible. I don't do any 3D, so 3D performance is a non-factor. I'm currently running a Powercolor HD3450 and it chews up 15W at idle (probably partially due to them not bothering to enable ...

I have both Nexus and Antec silicone fan mounts, and the Nexus ones are much better than the Antec (unless Antec has different versions that I don't know about). The Nexus silicone is much softer. The worst I've used are the dirt-cheap generic ones from jab-tech.com (same place I got the Nexus ones,...

However, I'd recommend the low-speed or mid-speed (if you want to undervolt it) Slipstream fans. My two S-flexes (D- variant) started to make whining sounds after a year of usage. I've replaced them with 5V slipstreams, and they run silent enough. Does your low-speed slipstream (the 800rpm version)...

500-800RPM target: Scythe 120mm S-Flex SFF21D or SFF21E?
I'm thinking of running primarily in the 500-800rpm range. Am I better off getting the 800rpm SFF21D or the 1200rpm SFF21E? (i.e. which one has a better sound profile in that range?)

An ATI HD 3450 card with low voltage modes?
All the HD3450 video cards I've come across have had only 1 fixed voltage available in the BIOS.
Does anyone actually have an HD3450 card that has more voltage choices so you can run at a lower volage in 2D mode?

Warning. ATI cards seem to vary a lot in idle power draw as some manufacturers don’t implement 2D mode properly. It’s really bloody annoying and makes choosing a card a bit of lottery. :x Yup. My Powercolor HD3450 draws almost 20W at idle. It lowers GPU frequency at idle, but does not drop the ...

ASUS ATI HD3450 (EAH3450/DI) with HDMI - good for low power?
Does anyone have the Asus EAH3450/DI? It has an integrated HDMI connection and uses the ATI HD 3450 chip. My question is whether it supports low voltage modes through PowerPlay. I bought a Powercolor HD 3450 card and while it lowers GPU clock frequency during idle, it does not lower the voltage. :( ...

Regarding the ease, it requires quite a bit of pressure to screw the bolts in. I've actually found the clip method to be easier. Didn't need a screwdriver. Pressur...

Low power PCI-E DVI video card for 2D only?
Can anyone recommend a PCI-E video card on newegg.com with the following specs?
1. low power usage the top priority (one that has a low-voltage mode for 2D?)
2. DVI connection to drive a 24" 1920x1200 LCD
3. only 2D is important. 3D performance is irrelevant.
4. fanless

Have you undervolted with CrystalCPUID? (Don't use RMClock for Brisbane CPUs...known stability problems when undervolting with dynamic p-states) The combination of undervolting with dynamic p-states (basically a more aggressive Cool 'N Quiet) will give you the lowest power draw at both idle and load...
