Re: Jerky mouse pointer. Enhance pointer precision not worki
edit: what is the resource monitor say for boot "disk que length"? I can't see what's on the resource monitor, because when I run it only the current background (I mean whatever is under the resource monitor window at the moment) is displayed in it (I know it is weird). Also disk LED blinks every s...

Re: Jerky mouse pointer. Enhance pointer precision not worki
If setpoint works differently regarding hardware between windows versions, you should change your mousepad, test it with a white paper. Errattic mouse movement can be caused by unsuited mousepads. It is perhaps slightly better on white paper, but just slightly. I uninstalled setpoint yesterday, and...

Jerky mouse pointer. Enhance pointer precision not working.
I miss the mouse pointer movement from Windows XP. Is there any way to 'import' the way the mouse was behaving in Windows XP 32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit? In Windows XP with the Enhance pointer precision turned on the mouse moved as it should, i.e. quite smoothly all the time and with good precision. ...

There are two Samsung 2TB HD204UI bought together (their S/N is different just by one digit at the end, so they had to be next to each other on the assembly line), but they behave very differently in tests, as you can see here: http://forum.hddguru.com/samsung-2tb-hd204ui-identical-hds-but-work-diff...

Re: SpinPoint EcoGreen F4EG 2TB HD204UI/Z4
Have Samsung truly fixed SMART or have they implemented some kludge to work around the problem? I have a pair of these HD204UI disks, with the 'fixed' firmware, manufacture date March 2011. Although I am not seeing data corruption (and I have done a lot of copying them full and md5 checksumming bef...

Do PCIe mobos require mandatory PCIe graphics cards to run?
Do PCI express x16 motherboards require mandatory PCIe graphics card to run? I am trying to run Celeron D 3.20 GHz on MS-7187 ver. 3.C motherboard ( http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/advent/pc/t9207.htm ) with only PCI graphics card, as I have no PCIe graphics card. In all the warranty period. That's how it works in almost all Europe. You only communicate with your reseller, which is both good and bad. In which shop did you purchase your disks? I believe that some of the major British suppliers replace or refund within 28 days, but after that period it is more...

Re: Verbatim USB 3.0 external 2 TB HD with Samsung F4EG HD20
Generally Samsung drives (even the new 2TB Samsung HD204UI) seem to have considerably poorer quality of the surface comparing to the 3 years old (or so) Western Digital WDC WD6400AAKS. If you're using the >500ms results as a proxy for "surface quality", this is very misleading. Among the drives you...

Re: SpinPoint EcoGreen F4EG 2TB HD204UI/Z4
Where I live, you always contact your reseller for warranty problems and they give you a new one when they found out that it's indeed bad. For a hard drive it means I need to wait like 3 days till they test it and after 3 days I get a new drive. Will they do it regardless of time of purchase or onl...

I was afraid that smartmontools would triger the bug on the HD204UI It wouldn't work through USB. You mean smartmontools wouldn't work, or the bug? If HDDScan was able to read firmware number over USB, then perhaps it issued ATA IDENTIFY DEVICE command, and they say here: http://sourceforge.net/app...

How do you know that what MHDD reports is comparable between brands? I do not know, but why wouldn't they be comparable? Most of the tests were done using HDDScan, only some using MHDD. I mean it can be something like SMART, which is preatty useless, except for maybe temperature. And how many of th...
