Re: Asus Z87M-Plus stuck in reboot loop (every few seconds)

Finally some positive news: Thanks to the awesome employees of a local branch of abig PC store chain I was able to get a power supply for testing (BeQuiet dark power 10 550W as tested here ). And guess what: The system ran stable for multiple hours! Now I am thinking about keeping the bequiet psu......

Re: Asus Z87M-Plus stuck in reboot loop (every few seconds)

Hello again! Thank you for that interesting discourse about antistatic bags! I never thought i would say that, but i learned something interesting about bags and padding. :) @xan_user: It must have been about 10 to 15 systems I built. So I am no hardcore system builder, but at least basically profic...

Re: Asus Z87M-Plus stuck in reboot loop (every few seconds)

Hello! Thanks for your helpful replies! I already tried most of what you suggested: * Luckily I was able to flash the newest 510 BIOS by using only ATX power and an USB stick (disconnected everything else). After resetting the CMOS, it normally accesses the BIOS before crashing. Yay, I guess the stu...

Hello! I hope this is the correct forum and you will forgive me making a forked thread for this hardware problem. The main thread is here and will be updated when this problem will be solved... Re: Quiet & small & powerful HTPC/Steambox - Please advise

Hello again! The first shipment of parts arrived, and I am nearly ready to start building this beast. I will make sure to post plenty of pictures as requested and will also tidy up the first posting in this thread to make navigation a bit more easy. There are also a few new questions, this time more...

Re: Quiet & small & powerful HTPC/Steambox - Please advise

Hi again! You are all awesome! This is really coming together! Case: Feel free to mock me as much as youo want, but I changed my decision to the Temjin 08-E. I will try undervolting and modding it if needed. The reason I choose this one over the Define Mini is the supposedly cooler Temps. It is even...

Re: Quiet & small & powerful HTPC/Steambox - Please advise

Thanks again for the helpful replies. It seems that this build is finally coming together! Case: I think I will have to go with a Fractal Define Mini. It is ugly as hell and way too large and clunky, but of all the available cases seems to be suited the best for my intended use. Man, how I would hav...

Re: Quiet & small & powerful HTPC/Steambox - Please advise

Thanks again for your replies! Wow, you all really gave me a LOT to ponder and I took my time to think this through even more. Also kept reading many, many articles from the main SPCR page which is a great resource. So here are my answers and clarifications to your questions: Case: This is giving me...

Re: Quiet & small & powerful HTPC/Steambox - Please advise

OK, so it seems that a few specs can be definitely decided on, but I am still unsure about the rest.... :( * I am still unsure if the USB3 bug bothers me. I do not plan on using any USB3 hardware in the near future..... * case: The Temjin 08-E is the largest I would be tolerating.... I updated the l...

Re: Quiet & small & powerful HTPC/Steambox - Please advise

Thank you very much for your helpful reply! I will try to answer point by point and try to be concise. * Yes, I most definitely want to do some gaming at 1080p with some decent details. So I guess a completely passive and small system is impossible. This is also why I am currently considering the MS...

Quiet & small & powerful HTPC/Steambox - Please advise

Hello everyone! A few years ago you guys helped me a LOT with a quiet DAW build, which worked beautifully for many years. Now I am trying to put together a HTPC for my living room that should: * contain the storage HDD for all movies and software (NAS setup not possible) * but still be as quiet as p...

Aaaah, thanks so much! You guys opened my eyes! I will read more on the positive pressure thing (I already studied that earlier but not in depth). Well, seems that now I will have to wait until the resellers come up with more options on cooling a 4850. The first review I read of the Sapphire toxic s...

Thank for the replies! The HD 4850 Toxic actually looks like just what I need. Seems that I will wait for the price and availability to be disclosed. Great! The games I play are a mixed bag. Besides oldies (Dosbox, yay!) I do the occasional Team Fortress 2 (and other HL2 games), Flight Simulator 200...

Thanks for your reply! [...]how are you going to set up your drives? i'd suggest getting 2x 1TB drives in RAID for data/scratch disks (for audio) and then using maybe a Raptor or a smaller drive for the OS. speed where its necessary, continuity where its needed. I thought about this, and researched ...

Please critique this audio production/gaming system

Hello! I've been following this website and forum for a while and learned a great deal. Now I would love to hear you knowledgeable input on a new system I am planning to build.
