Re: Please don't put another Moron in the White House
My point is that "training" and "conditioning" is the same process as evolution, except that the meaning of the word "evolution" describes a general species-wide transformation over time. If Monkey Girl were to have met and married a Monkey Boy with the same adaptations, their kids would have the s...

Re: Please don't put another Moron in the White House
A few years ago there was a girl in the U.S., about 16, who was the best rock climber without equipment in the world, better even than any man. Her family had been missionaries in Africa, and when she was about three years old her parents gave her a pet monkey. She wanted to be just like the monkey...

For those who don't remember or who didn't pay attention, that was the one who brought us propaganda funded by the fossil fuel industry. Propaganda/data from here Who funds it? - No idea. The steepness of the curve represents the rate of increase of emissions.
You don't seem to trust charts - perhaps you don't know how to interpret and represent data.
You sound as if you know what you're talking about but what you actually say gives the game away.
Merry Christmas.

I think what bugs me so much is the fact that so many people have such an anthropocentric view of the world - I suppose that's natural too.

Mike said, 90% of the species that have existed on earth are extinct. The figure is actually thought to be closer to 99.9% however I'm not one for splitting hairs. You get the idea. It's normal and extinction events pave the way for new species to evolve. If the dinosaurs had not gone then it wouldn'...

There may not be enough time if the greenhouse gas emissions continued unabated & the earth keeps getting hotter. The biggest risk is that as environmental changes cause food, arable (and livable) land, water, and energy to become increasingly limited, the global cooperation needed to eliminate gre...

No, the instrumental record is not alarming at all. Chart-gazing is not science. Nor is making stuff up. The time you spent putting up pictures would be better spent reading up on scientific methods. Re: Naomi Klein: Capitalism vs. the Climate
Neil, Hfat - I think that you are both missing the points I am trying to make: 1. There is indisputable geological evidence that the earth is currently in a cool "interglacial" period which is part of a longer era of glacial and interglacial periods. It is also clear from temperature records that th...

We are not "due" for an ice age. This is FUD. It's not FUD - as Hfat says, look at the science. I studied geology at university, I know a little bit about it. The fact that we are overdue, by historical standards, for another ice age may be due to human intervention. http://www.nzclimatescience.org/images/PDFs/archibald2007.pdf Who to believe? Hi judge There isn't one. Why does there need to be? Given that life serves no innate purpose, a rational person would choose not to reproduce because it can be rationally argued that procreation is unethical. A child does not benefit by being brought into existence, because you can't deprive someo...

As long as the definition of intelligence is simply "what an IQ test measures" these kinds of discussions are rather pointless imo. Agreed, but these days I don't think it is. Scientists have moved on and define intelligence in a much broader way. I would think that most people - your average man o...

A good start would be to ban advertising, stop importing dirt cheap goods from the third world and impose a hefty tax on non-essential (luxury) items to make it financially unviable to throw away and replace every 6 months. That's a top-down solution. I think we are way past that point, the system ...
