Desperately trying to source one of these in Australia. Has anybody had any luck importing them at a reasonable cost? I'd even happily settle for a used one. I was told by one of the guys that works at PC Case Gear in Melbourne (my usual source for quiet PC parts) that the Nexus Value 430 has not r...

You might be pushing it to fit most 120mm fan tower heatsinks into that case. I would consider some of the following blow-down heatsinks: - Scythe Kabuto - Scythe Grand Kama Cross - Scythe Zipang - Noctua NH-C12P - Xigmatek HDT-D1284 - Cooler Master Geminii S OR a 92mm fan tower-style heatsink: - Xi...

Nexus Real Silent 92mm Fan with PWM control #30814 X2 I'm curious why you are buying 92mm PWM fans when this case supports front and rear 120mm fans - unless I am missing something? I also didn't see an aftermarket CPU cooler on your list. I'd go with a Coolermaster Hyper 212+ with the stock fan re...

But the GD04 might have 1 important advantage: stealthed bluray drive. There's 1 thing my wife (yep her, less for me, but still) annoys more than fan noise and that's the blinking of a LED while watching TV. The GD04 does have a power LED. Does anyone know what color it is, and if it blinks or is s...

Alternatively, if you want to stick with the Big Shuriken and will not be using additional HDDs, consider the Silverstone GD-04 or GD-05 case as an alternative. With that case, you get to choose your own preferred quiet power supply. The stock fans may also be quiet enough for a HTPC, particularly i...

Re: i7 - 860 system, recommended CPU cooler and power supply

Quiet performance is the primary goal. Small form factor is the secondary objective. Since you are going for a mATX motherboard, why not a smaller mATX tower case like the Antec NSK 3480 (2 x front 92mm fans and 1 x rear 120mm fans) or the Silverstone TJ08 (1 front and 1 rear 120mm fans)? Both shou...

@speedkar9 - I do like the idea of suspending all the discs. I use Sonatas for my desktop PCs, with all discs suspended, and it does help. Re: Switch on SATA DVD drive power cable?

According to the SATA power cable schematics, there are 3 different voltage lines in that cable (3.3, 5 and 12VDC). However, my understanding is that the 3.3V is not used by DVD drives. I may be wrong. If that is correct I could get away with a DPDT switch on that power cable, otherwise it would be...

Finally, the Noctua fan would not start when the HX 750 was turned on. The PSU kept sending pulses of current, so the fan jigged a bit then stopped, repeatedly. However it would not turn on. From the SPCR review of the Noctua NH-D14, which comes with one of these 140mm Noctua fans, the starting vol...

Looks good but I agree with speedkar9 that you shouldn't have the CPU heat being exhausted through the PSU, even if you have the PSU fan on a fixed speed. It looks like you could cut out an exhaust hole on the rear panel near the CPU, so maybe see if you can do that and duct the CPU heat out that wa...

The CM 330 might work fine, though the front is really open and would let all the sound out. If its in a cabinet though, you wouldn't notice it. The CM 335 just looks alot cooler 8). I am still undecided on the HDD vs SSD. I will probably end up going with a cheap, small intel SSD, as I require very little space. If I go with the HDD, though, I will certainly look into your suggested mod. Removing the HDD cage will help you increase airflow either way by reducing blockage of th...

You didn't mention hard drives. Unless you go with an SSD, you're going to have hard drive noise. My non-cutting modification tip would be to remove the HDD cage (may require drilling out of rivets holding it in place) and suspend any HDDs in the optical drive bays using clothing elastic. This would...

Would be interesting to see how it works. For a further refinement, you could have some noise-damping foam attached to the back of the extruded plate to perhaps assist with some of the noise that would leak out. Or, for anyone who wants to maintain a bit more of a 'gamer' look, use clear acrylic ins...
