I'm running the M4A78T-E with an original Scythe Mugen, which does overhang the two closest memory slots but isn't really an issue unless you have tall memory heatsinks. Standard ones shoud fit easily. I know mine isn't the same as the board you're looking at, but from the images I've found online t...

Not having used metal filters I can't really say for sure, however it seems likely that metal filters should be easier to clean. I know from mine, the plastic ones can be a pain, although that might be due to me trying to wash them clean. Regarding the supporting grilles, I removed most of the rear ...

Seconding Infy, congrats with fixing Vista... ish... I dunno if that makes sense. Regarding the OS on a chip thing, you can install it to a USB flash drive if you can get one big enough and/or trim down the OS to fit. I know that has been done with XP and I'm pretty sure it can be done with Vista. N...

This doesn't help with your original windows not booting, but vista needs at least 15GB of space on a hard drive to install. If you were trying to install it on a 100MB drive that would explain why it wouldn't work. I'd agree with Infy and Dave, check the BIOS settings and boot order/priority. Hopef...

@ KoolPC: I have a Scythe Mugen(infinity) in the same case which is bigger in all dimension than the 1283, and it fitted without too much fiddling (small hands can really help sometimes). The fit will depend on your motherboard though, so check compatibility. @ FartingBob: Orientation of the CPU coo...

Prodding a sleeping thread may not help anyone much, but I'm pretty sure I know why the modded axial fan will only blow out the side. For BlueFront's original set-up it works because of the centrifugal effect of the fan, the air coming into the middle is thrown outwards by the blades. This also mean...

I have to say, I'm not convinced having a GPU socket on the motherboard would work. If the GPU had GRAM slots both the slots and chip would need to be compatible with a lot of different memory technologies, and seeing how there are so few DDR2/DDR3 dual memory motherboards out there I have a feeling...

Hi Nilson, If my motherboard let me I'd try something similar, but the am2 mugen is a little stuck pointing towards the back. If you were to use a ninja or similar where a fan can be put on any side you could try ducting two side to the top and back fans. For testing you could just use some cardboar...

The 5 or 7 volt trick should both work, so long as the fan can still start.

@hillkitler: Thanks, that was pretty much all I did between the two posts. Still, two hours is fairly short for me when I get playing with CAD :D @xan: I was going off iamweasel's idea, hence the solid ring round the fan. Rubber/silicone may, but should not, deform sufficiently to touch the edges of...

A model I as a sort of proof of concept, ended up a bit more complex than I intended. Each corner has its own insulator/absorber that fits over a pin on the centre ring, and the corner piece uses two pins similar to acoustifan soft mounts. http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i16/fawlters/Inventor%20st...

Good idea, but I'm not too sure the soft rubber would take too well to screws. I might be wrong though. Also, depending on how much interference there is between the hard ring and the soft mount, or how much smaller the soft bit is than the hard part, it could still deform the ring. It might be easi...
