Thanks for the answers, apparently there's both a straight power 10 and a straight power 10 CM (from Cable Management) and I could only find the completely non modular one here.
Corsair RMx it is. Hope I don't get buyer's remorse

Yet another 500W-ish PSU question, limited options
From limited options. I'll get gold, I don't dare try fanless, would prefer modular but I'm not extremely fussed about it. I picked 500-550W because I have more options that way and definitely don't need more power (could prolly get away even with 400 W). Want quiet, and long life. Based in Romania,...

Are there any mini PCs like this with the PSU fully inside the case? Passive or low noise active cooled.

The problem with the Spinpoint M9T is... where can you buy it?
I want a PS4 for Christmas... and I want one of those inside it before I start installing games. I have a feeling I'll have to do with the 500 Gb hard drive

Another lone data point here: I've had a G360 for at least 2 years and it's still going strong. On a 50-150 W load though.

Re: Bought a Nexus 120 PWM, big mistake
The OP has been using Linux for years, including software development for Linux/embedded Linux. All these years, he has never bothered to figure out how to set up lmsensors, which is why he prefers BIOS or simply hardware based solutions. The Nexus 120 PWM fan that he was whining about is humming al...

Re: Bought a Nexus 120 PWM, big mistake
Did you know that PWM fans are *not* temperature-controlled? The PWM input can be connected to a constant signal (for example, ground) or to a variable signal (for example, a temperature-based controller like the one in a motherboard). I would prefer that you not bash the PWM fan for the fact that ...

Re: Bought a Nexus 120 PWM, big mistake
To be honest I prefer fans spinning at a constant low speed to temperature adjusted fans; the noise "quality" change with load is more annoying than a constant whoosh. This PWM experience just reinforced that. Come to think of it, I'm not so sure I *need* a case fan. This is an Ivy Bridge i7 with an...

Re: Bought a Nexus 120 PWM, big mistake
In case anyone wonders how the saga ended, I gave up on the PWM and plugged the fan through a fanmate. Had to cut off a bit of plastic to make the 4 pin connector fit the 3 pin fanmate. With the voltage control in the lowest 1/4, it's now silent. Not sure if it does any good, the airflow seems a bit...

Re: Replacement for 9600 GT
How silent is the rest of your PC? I used to have a 9600GT that i personally modded to passive, then a 450 that I also modded (to a S2 or S1 with fans though). However, this year I've had personal experience with both a 650 and 660 with the DirectCu cooler from Asus, and they are silent enough for m...

Re: Bought a Nexus 120 PWM, big mistake
What was the control system for your Antec fan? Specifically, was it PWM? The Nexus PWM fan may indeed have a design defect, but more likely, your motherboard is not set to allow the minimum PWM speed (0% duty cycle). I'm not familiar with the Gigabyte GA-Z77-DS3H, but my similar MSI motherboard ha...

Bought a Nexus 120 PWM, big mistake
The place where i usually get fans was out of the black and white 3 pin Nexus 120 so i bought the clear plastic 120 PWM. I had a faint idea it wasn't that silent but i thought "how bad can it be?". Well. It's bad. For one, the PWM sucks. My Gigabyte GA-Z77-DS3H runs the fan at a minimum of 1200 rpm....

Okay, lesson learned: don't go cheap with the kid's PC, just bite the bullet and upgrade it when it's ancient. Also, the case is somewhat of a pain. It's inside a desk; the front and back of the said space are open; the back is a few centimeters away from the wall. I think it should be reasonably well ventilated.
And if i get the CoolerMaster i have ~15 cm of extra width to leave on the sides.

Re: RAID1 and dual boot / hackintosh?
With software raid you're stuck with the OS that made it. With fakeraid you depend on OS driver support, and it may be not compatible across operating systems as well. With real hardware raid you're screwed if the card dies, as you need to find an identical one to access your data. Tbh i'd use only ...

Re: New quiet(ish) PC/Hackintosh build - thoughts?
A hackintosh-ish comment; if you decide to go dual/triple boot, it's much less hassle to have OS X alone on its own disk. So you may want to leave the option to add a second (spinning i guess, because of the price of 2 SSDs) hard drive in there for the secondary OS(es). I.e. keep one drive cage.

An not so precise update to my initial question in this thread: I ended up buying an Asus Geforce 650 DirectCu and it's pretty damn quiet. The problem with Ati^H^H^HAMD cards is that they're still operating with reduced functionality - if at all - if you run linux and, to a lesser extent, a hackintosh - and i do both. Software fan control is also useless if you dual/triple boot since it tends to only run on windows. So, nvidia it is fo...
