Can GTX260 underclock? vs 4850 idle power consumption
Hey just picked up one of these cards(MSI GTX260 core 216 55nm), its nice but I'm already missing my 4850(which btw was/is my 1st ATI card, no fanboy here). The GTX 260 consumes more power at idle when underclocked. It goes down to 150/100 but only with 1 monitor. My 4850 set at 360/600(600 is as lo...

Ok got the parts today and everything works good, even with the crap Bestec 250w PSU using a 20pin connector. I got Cool N Quiet working, but it sucks! So I went back to my old friend RMclock which is awesome :D Anyway I ended up using my old Hitachi 80gb sata HDD. And will for the other setup also(...

I ended up getting the AMD Gigabyte setup, well actually 2 of them. I got one to redo my Mom's computer as well which is also a socket 462 AMD. So far I just bought 1 Gigabyte Mobo from Buy.com and signed up for the Visa to get $30 off. I'm debating if I should get another Gigabyte Mobo or to get te...

Quick help for basic Internet browsing, Intel or AMD?
Hi my Dad's old AMD socket A has died. I told him now is the time to upgrade as I can build it cheap as I have an extra unused copy of XP laying around. Cheap is the main goal, as well as power consumption, as like I said its only for internet browsing. He literally doesnt know how to do anything el...

I have a hard time believing that Xbit labs chart also. I have seen a review between GTX 260 216;s 55nm and 65nm and the 55nm drew more power at some instances and less at others. I wish I remember where it was. I think if your into power consumption, or bang per watt you should wait a while as newe...

Maybe I skimmed over the proof but it seems as though they accuse the 4870 of drawing over 200W from the 8 pin connector when it is in reality drawing 75W from the slot and the rest from the 8 pin. That's what I thought also You're talking about the 4870 X2 right? They measured the power from all a...

Same here, I have EIST and C1E/2E/4E enabled. Dont use RM clock I saw the same 1.1v bottom limit. I found on my Gigabyte board that it wont go down to lower than 1.1v unless I have the Vcore on auto or normal. So on my UD3P here's my new Q9650, that runs almost the same clocks at the same voltages a...

If you want the best dual core its an E8600, E8500 is prob similar. My E8400 is almost as good as it would go to 4.5Ghz but I could not get it stable for long. You can max pretty much any dual core with that Xiggy heatsink as mine would just start to hit 60c with 1.45v in bios running 4.5Ghz, does 3...

Artic Cooling S1 rev 2 should be able to run passive on the 4830(680/1050 stock speeds). I have an Asus TOP 4850, it was running hot. I had 2 fans running slow and the 4850 set on 100% fan at all times(since its quiet), temps were 46.5C and 54C memory at idle and would get to almost 70C at load mem ...

Edit: Now that's just odd. It became stable at 0.892 V after increasing core clock to 250 MHz... Thats how mine is also, I cannot go below 216, but if I raise the voltage I can go all the way down to 150(lowest I tested). As far as the power consumption, there is no measurable difference going from...

The gigabyte boards are nice, I just setup a similar setup with a UD3P, E8400(E0) and Asus Top 4850. So far mine runs at 3.780Mhz on stock 1.25v, then throttles down to 2520Mhz @.9v. Just be aware that the UD3P is getting most all of the attention as far as bios's, so far there are 2x as many bios's...

Is your stable at such low voltage when running ATT's stability tester? Have you tried running Furmark (with its exe file renamed)? Yes mine is stable at 250/600 with the lowest voltage in ATT(.892v), I just ran furmark on it at those settings as well as the ATT stability tester. I just tried lower...

My S939 is a hog I believe. I tested for the 1st time today with my Kill A Watt meter. Lowest I get is 108w. Its a DFI Ultra D, Opteron 165 dually that idles @1080Mhz@.9v. Just put in a Asus 4850, brought the speed and volts down to save 15W. If I bump it up to the full speed setting(2430@1.35v, sto...

1st download and install the newest Nvidia drivers. Then download and install the newest Rivatuner(version 2.22 IIRC) Google for a guide for rivatuner. Set up some fan profiles and the launcher to automatically switch the fan speed as the temps rise. Personally I dont go over 70C. If you looking for...

I dont have much to add, the E5200 should do great. I have an E8400 which I'm sure draws a little more from the more cache, but it runs 2520 at .9V so great performance per watt, I chose it over a quad as I dont need that much but like the power Look for 1.8v ram as that will help a little. On the r...

Hey same here. I have an ASUS TOP 4850, just got it yesterday and have been flashing/adjusting things all day. I also have this issue where my GPU clocks and mem speeds ramp up to 3D speeds even when I have all the tables set to lower settings. Only stays at the low settings if I'm idle or basic stu...
