Re: Is it possible to get POWER and silence?
If it helps, I'll be using premiere and photoshop to create/edit and manage videos. Does anyone know how core aware Adobe products are? My, limited, understanding was that they are core aware. I didn't make myself clear in my OP. I'm NOT tied to AMD I've just always used 'em. From whatI've been advi...

Re: Is it possible to get POWER and silence?
Some sound advice people and I thank you one and all.
As for doing what the pros do, I have to sit with it in my home so if I put it in another room I'd get even more noise - in my ears!!!

Re: Is it possible to get POWER and silence?
I do realise it's not going to be cheap but, if all works out, money will not be the issue. I currently have an Antec Solo case (slightly modified) with 7 HDs in all with each suspended by bungie cord so the only sound one really hears if I listen hard is them spinning up and then the seek clicks on...

Is it possible to get POWER and silence?
I'm looking to build a PC that will do anything I can throw at it. It will be a minimum of dual monitor, maybe three, have at least 6 HDs, and be required to do complex 3d rendering and video editing work so teh last thing I want to do is have to sit in front of the blessed thing watching the egg ti...

SATA cables
Hi I'm looking to modularise my PSU. That bit I'm fine with. To make it work however I need a source of sata power connectors already connected to cables of a decent length (e.g. 500mm) or just a source of the sata power connnectors themselves so I can solder them all up. Can anyone point me in the ...

Hi Pierre In order to make any objective comments about your individual set-up you'll need to post a few pictures. Then we'll be able to give some more explicit and specific advice. With regard to suspending HDDs. Like you. I too was extremely sceptical at first. I tried every method of mounting exc...

Interesting discussion peeps. Couple of observations if I may. Firstly, RANT ON, todays yoof (horrible generalism I know) are mostly simple incapable of modifying. RANT OFF. To be fair, those that reach the hallowed portals of SPCR are the exceptions that prove the rule. The people that reach here a...

Hi Pierre Firstly, if you are going to encase a shed load of hard drives you need to consider their cooling. As has already been explained, unless you go for an expensive case then you are unlikely to get it really quiet out of the box. My advice, for what its worth, is to look for a case that has l...

HR-01 Plus equiv/replacement on vert mounted mobo?
Need some advice please. My pc sits just 30cm from my right rear and is quiet enough that typing is much noisier than the system - even with 5 fans and 6 hard drives squeezed into an Antec Solo  However, I've decided that I'd like a tower CPU cooler to rid myself of the CPU fan. I have enou...

Ok confession time... I actually use an old PSION for keeping track of appts and all my customers (approx 1500) for which it is just perfect. However, it will only sync using a serial port and just one particular make and model of USB to serial cable which I understand is no longer made. So, ...

Mark Firstly, it is possible to slow down the pump and that would along with the damper feet make a difference. The 'secret' is to ensure that an appropriate delta T is taking place i.e. that the correct temperature drop is occuring between the flows and returns. The setup will have a point at which...

Mobo suggestions req'd please
Hi Have an ABIT A-N78HD board at pres that will not hold its boot priority for longer than 4 hours no matter what I do so... its gonna get shot (that I WILL enjoy!)  So, I'm looking for a, well supported , mother board that meets the following needs: - cool and quiet (not really i...

Murx Well, its all your fault... I've just taken the plunge and purchased a ReadyNAS with 2 x 1.5TB drives! You were right is was time I did it properly. On the Psion, fret not it's backed up on its removable CF card every few days and then top PC as well. I'd die if I lost that lot!!! Thank you ver...

Murx & Jay You raise some valid points people. I do back up my business stuff online and that has proven invaluable when drives fail. However, I don't do that with my pictures as I have over 1TB of them and growing... I haven't used DVDs for reasons of storage and time and sanity. When I realised ho...

Thanks guys. to answer the question, im obsessed with backing up my photographs... I already have 6 drives in the machine and two as an external raid array. 3 drives are 'live' and three as back ups including a boot disk. I've suffered by losing thousands of images so that's where it all comes from....

MoBo with 8+ SATA connectors
Sorry if this has been asked before but I've looked through and can't find a recent answer! Can anyone help? I need a new MoBo with ideally, the following: - 8+ sata connectors - serial port - 8+ USB ports (or headers) - AMD2+ - take 4GB of dual channel memory (4 slots) - OC able but not madl...

LH You have kind of answered my question with yours. As I only have 2 connections available, it seems to me that I can only have two external drives. These woudl then be configured as a raid array by the BIOS. Do you know of any other way of getting an external raid array using something other than ...

Hi guys. I'm not sure I've made myself very clear. If not I apologise! I have these 6 sata connectors on my mobo (A-N78HD). I use 4 already (and will continue to) and the others are labelled RAID connectors. What I want, is to somehow connect (if possible) 4 more drives as 2 seperate 2 raid arrays v...
