The only way to tell if you have too many fans is to shut some of them off and see what happens to your temps. From my experience with the P183, I would recommend removing the top fan, and blocking the top hole in the case.

Re: Nearly Complete Quiet Build

Very neat build. Any particular reason you flipped the PSU upside down? Also, since your box sits so close to the desk's "wall", you might wanna consider fastening like a small rug or a thick towel on the side to minimize any noise escaping from the 120 mm case fan and its hole. I don't have any wi...

Re: Nearly Complete Quiet Build

Nice build. Any reason why you didn't suspend both the hard drives in the bottom chamber? Then you can install the upper hard drive cage and move the intake fan closer to the graphics card. Thanks. The reason why I removed both cages was for simplicity and flexibility inside the case. The reason fo...

Nearly Complete Quiet Build

Hello After ~8 months of researching, planning, building, thumb-twiddling and finally re-building, my quiet home/office PC build is effectively finished. (I say nearly complete because as we all know the desire to tinker is ever-present.) The computer is very quiet, definitely more quiet than any PC...

Two quick notes from someone who has bought and RMA'ed one of these recently: 1. If you have a P18x you will need a 8-pin EPS extension. 2. If you are planning on using this power supply on an AFCI circuit, you may be out of luck. I returned mine because it tripped the breaker in my bedroom. NCIX te...

Hi dyfrgi I am in an apartment building, so my ability to fiddle with the electrics is somewhat compromised. I have been in this apartment for a couple of years and had no problems with the breaker. My old computer has been hooked up to this circuit since I moved in with no problems. However, the ol...

Thanks speedkar9! I shorted the PSU with two results: 1. When attached to the AFCI breaker, the breaker still trips as soon as I power up. 2. When attached to the other breaker, the fans fire up fine. So I would assume that the PSU is fine. I will wait for the new MB and everything should work fine....

@Blue_Sky: I will definitely be rigging up some sort of elastic suspension for whatever drives I end up with. Good to know about the monitors. From what I hear, Dell has pretty good customer service, so if I do end up with a lemon it should be easy to return it. @JamieG: Thanks for the heads-up on t...

New Build

Hello all, I am planning to build a new computer in the next couple of weeks. This will be a replacement for my main machine. It will be used for number crunching (MAPLE, Sage), surfing teh interwebs, movies, office tasks and playing the occasional game. My goal is a moderately fast (at least up-to-...

Uhh...wasn't referring to you. (That's why we use quotes!) If he was arguing the same points, that's what he should have said. If not, he should provide us with his reasoning. It's not about being right or wrong, I just want to know where everyone is coming from. I know you weren't referring to me....

Can't do much from behind, although I can remove the entire cage and add something to the sides. Which is what I'll probably do, just take some card to the edges to make a tighter fit. Thanks for the suggestions though, i'll keep an eye out for that latex stuff. You're welcome. Though I must point ...

Latex caulk would probably work well. Cheap, and easy to remove should you need to.

The temperature of the case and surrounding air may rule this out for gaps close to the back of your case and near the CPU, GPU, PSU, etc, but it would probably work well at the front of your case.

I am really interested in this card for my next build. Any thoughts on what is better:

1. Gigabyte passive 4850, or

2. Cheaper 4850 + aftermarket cooler.

I wonder, would your ducting be more effective if you disabled the front case fans?

Nice build!

Hello

Hello I am somewhat new to spcr (I have read the mainpage reviews in the past, but never ventured into the forums). I am planning to replace my current, somewhat noisy, PC with a shiny, new, quiet , powerful machine in 4-6 months and have already started planning it out. Hopefully I will be able to ...
