Re: Going to mod variable resistors onto fans. What resistan
I just ordered 2x Yate D12SL's and when they get here I'm going to mount a variable resistor onto the fan body and cut and solder the wires onto the resistor to be able to tune each fan individually for best results and have that change permanent for each fan. Any suggestions on what kind of resist...

Re: NVidia GPU always runs full speed when using multi scree
This is normal and it's this way to avoid tearing issues between the two monitors (according to evga support). My impression was that ATI cards capable of lowering clock speed also do the same thing(?) On my card, running dual monitor config uses up an additional ~60W. One solution would be to use t...

Re: Black-Ice SR-1 120 on a GTX580
How about a little pros/cons chart at the end ? Good suggestion, I have added it. Do you think a push/pull fan configuration would improve temps at lower fan speeds ? I did try this for some combos and only saw approximately 1C improvement. From the pics, I understand that the radiator is fed fresh...

Black-Ice SR-1 120 on a GTX580
Most reviews/articles I have seen of water cooling systems focus on achieving lowest possible delta-T from ambient, with 10C or below as the golden target and anything above 15C is an “overloaded” water cooling system. This review is different because I am going to focus on whether a single 120x120 ...

Re: Silent Scientific Computing
Hi LM741C, so all in all, do you recommend the C700D? I Want to replace my P180 with something bigger. thanks! No, I just don't think the case is oriented towards the quiet pc crowd. Almost everything about it was nice (size, cable management, expansion room) except for the vibrating panels. If you...

Re: Thermalright Shaman on GTX570
I bought one TY-140 fan but did not yet have a chance to test it. After reading the comments about the fan yesterday, I went out and bought an adapter so I could hook it up to a power supply and the clicking sound is present  on almost all voltage levels above 6.5v. Fan orientation did not matt...

Re: Thermalright Shaman on GTX570
Finally someone tried and reported back . What did you use as load the card? Did you connect the thermalright fan directly to the video card header? Last, if you don't mind (and feel it's safe), can you run an older version of furmark (like 1.6.x) and report temps. Thx.

Re: GTX 570 / GTX 580 / HD 6970 quiet on air (water maybe) ?
Does it mean you are deciding between aftermarket air vs. stock cooler or aftermarket water vs. aftermarket air ? Just curious. I'm going with custom water just for the GPU but I'm willing to reconsider aftermarket air if it does well. The GPU block is the last part I'm waiting for which should arr...

Re: GTX 570 / GTX 580 / HD 6970 quiet on air (water maybe) ?
Hmm... I wouldn't expect it to be that bad just from looking at the measured noise levels. It's not that bad at idle, unless your goal is silence in a quiet environment, idle noise can probably be ignored by most. On load it's still not as noisy as my hair dryer on low (I have a noisy hair dryer :l...

Re: GTX 570 / GTX 580 / HD 6970 quiet on air (water maybe) ?
Here's another 580 review that mentions (the lack of) fan noise. Honestly, I think someone finally figured out that noisy stock coolers are a bad thing, and did something proper about it. It may be quieter than before but it's neither quiet nor silent. At idle, fan is spinning at ~1400 RPM and I ca...

Re: Silent Scientific Computing
Im not aiming for inaudible; a smooth background whitenoise is fine with me. And I could schedule most serious computing in the evening hours. Your parameters are different than mine so an FT02 may work just fine for you. Cordis suggested the FT02 to me but I was worried about the noise leaking fro...

Hi all, two future high end GPU's, ~2x250w Are these Fermi GPUs or Tesla cards?. One thing you may want to take into consideration on the GPU Fermis, NVidia throttles the double precision to 1/4 the flops of the Tesla cards, I don't know if ATI does the same thing but I believe they let double fp r...

Re: 100,000 Point Club
It's running on the GPU--a GTX580, it will do around 15.5k pts/day if I don't slow down the clock. I'm probably the only one doing that to this card  . I don't know if I can keep it up though since the card is noisy and my system sucks up ~320W when folding. It's not too bad right now since...

Re: Silent Home Server Build Guide
It appears to me that judging from these recent build guides, the case design hardly matters compared to other components. For example, I would have expected cases with the multiple front-fans and HD's sitting next to them to be noisier than cases such as P183 that has a door and padding to baffle s...

I ran into the same problem as you before also on a VX450. The solution for me was to turn off the CPU power saving states (C3/C6/C7 and EIST) or give it some load. HTH.

An update on the chirping/buzzing corsair VX450W PSU's. Would it help to mount the drives in the PSU chamber? These are a few things I am curious about and am wondering if anyone tried this. After doing some more research into this topic, it appears to be a common problem with some corsair (and other brand) PSU's. Possible causes: 1. Non-sinusoidal a/c shape (squarish when coming from UPS). 2. Too low power draw on 12v line (solution: turn off c1e and eist). 3. Graphics cards. http://fo...

Corsair VX450W chirping sound--disappointing
Two new builds this weekend both, Antec P180 case, I7-860, 120mm exhaust fans replaced with scythe, ATI 5670. My problem is with the PSU :x , it chirps constantly and noticeably. I noticed it first on one system where I replaced the stock cooler with a thermalright MUX-120 (fan also replaced with sc...

You don't need the 625watt PSU -- the new Nexus 430 would be plenty powerful, and quieter. MODO82+ does fine without the extra airflow of the bottom-cage fan. I have that exact setup. If you want, feel free to drop it down to the 525W model, or probably even the 425W one. I think that video card of...

I have no experience with the graphics card but your combo looks good. The only other thing I would consider is to replace the two case fans, the one on top and the one on the back with something else. You can control the CPU analog fan using the bios, just be sure to select "analog" instead of "aut...
