It appears the Asus M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 board has improved efficiency and fan control over the Asus 785 boards, too bad its price is so much greater. :( check the results at xbit : with the following setup: CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 635 (Propus, 2.9 GHz, 4 x 512 KB L2 cache) Mainboards: ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/...

Thanks, that makes sense after I did a bit more searching and more reading. 1. So, motherboards with the RLT8211 chips are probably using a non-Realtek MAC, is that right or wrong? 2. And as long as the MAC and PHY are communicating correctly it doesn't matter to the end user? (basically what you me...

Differences between ethernet controller and transceiver?
Sorry, I am new at networking and my searches have landed in technical documents that are difficult for me to sort out. This lan chipset: Realtek RTL8111DL is referred to as an "ethernet controller" This lan chipset: Realtek RTL8211CL Is referred to as an "ethernet transceiver" Can someone explain i...

The OCZ SXS400-EU was reviewed at HWSecrets.

The components look good (unit made by CWT).
Any news on the acoustics of the 140mm fan by SPCR members who have this PSU?

I have two of the pictured fans running vertically at about 1100 rpm and very satisfied with them as case fans. My average ambient room temp is above 30 degrees celsius and ambient noise level is perhaps higher than SPCR norm however. I didn't reply earlier because I don't have them mounted horizont...

Moondoggy, Welcome to the SPCR forum. Ultra is not one of the highly regarded brands here, and for $20 you should be able to find something with better performance. If you haven't done so yet you should probably read the following review of 120mm fans: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article695-page1....

BFG LS-450 PSU review
There is a recent review of the BFG LS-450 at Hardware Secrets:
http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/732/1
I saw no mention of acoustic performance or close-ups of the cooling fan.
Another site did show the fan as an ADDA.

My opinion is, go for Noctua if your board can control the speed of non PWM fans. If not, AC is not a bad choice. rellaghs, thanks for your input. After reading several more SPCR threads on the Noctua P12, I got the impression that many members here were very disappointed in the P12, value-wise, wh...

O.K., 70 views but no response so I will ask a new question in this regard: Are the Noctua NF-R8 and Arctic Cooling AF8025PWM much louder than the three fans on the SPCR 80mm "Recommended Fan List"? It seems most of the interest these days is with the 120mm and larger size fans--it is difficult to g...

Opinions on Noctua NF-P12 and NF-R8 vs. Arctic Cooling fans
This is a continuation of another thread I started here: http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=53588 I have taken Silverstone off my short list of case & cpu fans, so I decided to start a new thread. Arctic Cooling was at the top of my shopping list, but I have hesitant to order those...

BFG & Tagan PSU testing request.
@MikeC, I know it's not possible to test every model manufactured on Earth, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Is it possible for SPCR to test the following couple of PSUs? Tagan SuperRock 400W BFG LS-450 Both are made by Enhance. The BFG LS-450 uses an ADDA fan unlike the LS-550. It is also single 12V rai...

MadShrimps 120mm Fan comparison May2009 (30 models)
I noticed a new fan comparison today. Have a look here:
http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=getarticle&articID=936
In this comparison a Gentle Typhoon model, two Panaflo models, and a Sanyo Denki San Ace model seemed to fair quite well.
The big loser seemed to be a Silverstone model made by Everflow.

Thanks truckman, It looks like I will be getting at least an Arctic Cooling Fan 8 to replace the old Coolermaster on the CPU heatsink. Seems like a good choice for that duty compared to all the other brands I have to choose from. I would also probably go for the Fan 9 to replace my 7-year old 80mm P...

Thanks for the welcome, Neil. Spurred on by reading many threads in this forum, I did more searching and I stand corrected --I have found a shop which has some Arctic Cooling fans. edh thanks for replying, Yes, those are unavailable as well. The past couple of hours I have been combing the net using google and I have found a quasi-local distributor for Xigmatek cooling, including fans.
