Re: Bay-trail motherboards
These boards consumes so little energy altogether. I've been doing regular office work now for 5 hours (that's what it is intended). HWInfo shows 14 temp readings. The highest Maximum is 59° (CPU), the highest Average is 55°, basically the parts run between 47° and 55°. Should I be concerned about ...

Re: CamMi, dedicated Blue Iris Camera Server
...Thank you. The best thing would be a live warning from motion detection. But what do you do then? Login with your tablet and watch the burglar? Blue Iris has both an Android and IOS app associated with it. Either one is capable of providing (near) instant alert on motion detect. In practice its ...

Re: CamMi, dedicated Blue Iris Camera Server
I can confirm that BI is CPU-heavy. But in reality, it is THREAD heavy and doesn't require much actual processing from each thread. An i7 is a good idea so that you get 8 threads (4 cores + 4 HT). But it doesn't really need to be a 4770K. That part really is overkill. BI is a perfect candidate for t...

Wonder if you guys would mind taking your ZFS theology debate to its own thread and letting this one stay on topic regarding bay trail MBs? On topic: any word on when/if SM will release a bios upgrade supporting proper UEFI boot options on the X10SBA(-L)? The 32-bit UEFI boot loader in bios 1.0b is ...

Re: Bay-trail motherboards
Can anyone confirm the DVI output on GA-J1900N-D3V is limited to 1920x1080? It sounds ridiculous to me. Normal DVI (DVI-I or DVI-D) is always limited to 1080p output. To exceed 1080p the interface must be Dual-Link DVI (DVI-DL). The GA-J1900N-D3V is DVI-D (not Dual Link or DL) and is therefore limi...

Re: Has any used a Supermicro Atom C2000 based motherboard?
On power consumption: I see you two debating systems that "idle" less than 20w. I'd point out that the SuperMicro C2750 boards idle well under 20w (~17) and hit ~32w running full load with synthetic benchmarks (no spinny disks, Supermicro MB, 32GB and small SSD for boot). Mine runs a bit higher sole...

Re: Has any used a Supermicro Atom C2000 based motherboard?
I have the 8-core mini-ITX version of that board (A1SAi-2750F) in a server. Love it. Its sitting in a SuperMicro 1U case with 4 hotswaps. Running Hyper-V server 2012 R2. Works great. Runs the fans in the case nice and slow. Not silent, but quiet. Plenty of horsepower for my needs (which include runn...

Re: Bay-trail motherboards
I'm afraid that usage of some 200 - 300 W PSU will lead to extra Watts consumed just because it is used in range with low effectiveness. I recently installed a 760W Corsair Platinum+ PSU which promises 90% efficiency: http://www.corsair.com/en/power-supply-units/ax-series-power-supply-units/ax760-a...

Re: Bay-trail motherboards
I had the same problem trying to play blu-ray under windows 8.1 on this board. Couldn't get them to play without stutter under XBMC, VLC or any other player. DVD was ok but it wouldn't hold the frame rate required for Blu-ray. Blu-ray plays perfectly running Linux, Ubuntu 13.10, XBMC. I'm guessing t...

Re: Bay-trail motherboards
I've been running Ubuntu 13.10 on the X10SBA in a Chenbro ES34169 for a day or so with no additional airflow apart from the drive cooling fans. In this case the motherboard and drive compartments are separated by a wall so there's no direct air current over the mobo, but I've always found with this...

Re: Bay-trail motherboards
@piglover how does the X19SBA performs? I'm planing to get one and use it as my NAS (samba, torrenting) MB, I'll also use it as HTPC for playing 1080p videos. I may not need xmbc, if X19SBA does well with VLC then that's lot enough for my purpose. I'm bit worried about linux support as I'm planing ...

Supermicro specifies 12v. No discussion of safe ranges of voltages. I assume that means 12v (not 19v).

Re: Bay-trail motherboards
A question about MSI J1800I: I noticed the so called 'P12V' 4pin connector; do you know if it is possible to power up this mobo with an external 'laptop-like' 20V DC? Or is it ATX only? Thx Yes, it is possible to power this MB using only 12v power. SM is absolutely designing their new mITX boards t...

hI all, I am new to this, I have a number of questions: I would like to upgrade my mini-ITX ATOM330+ION card, mainly for performance. 1) Do you a Bay-train Celeron card will be a good one? A bit worried about video performance? 2) Many mobo presented (many 1+ months ago) - excellent list at the beg...

SuperMicro X10SBA is indeed out - and actually available. I picked one up last weekend for $173 @ superbiiz.com. They are still showing them in stock and at that same price. Problem: there are no Windows drivers available yet from SuperMicro or Intel (ugh!). Only drivers available are the ProSet dri...

pretty hefty price... are they all in that range? Two things: - SM boards are always pricey - This board is not 'officially' available in the USA and this seller is grey-marketing them in and charging a premium for making them available. I'd expect this one to be about $200ish when officially relea...

Re: Bay-trail motherboards
I don't really mind needing the PicoPSU or see it adding that much complexity. It is just as efficient as having on-board regulation for the power coming in off the external brick. What I do mind is the extra cost... Also, on their recent miniITX boards, SM power input has been 24 pin ATX or 4-pin 1...

Re: Why I won't recommend a Haswell system until August+
Intel knows what they are doing but their motives are questionable. They probably use crummy TIM to save 50¢ each just because they can. Its not a big deal unless you bought a k processor for over clocking... There is a pretty large gap between what Intel could do and what they actually sell (no vt...

Re: Akasa Euler Fanless case
Copper does have almost twice the thermal conductivity of aluminum, so clearly the results would be better. The question is how much better. The real heatsink is the rest of the case and and finned design. Yes - a copper block would potentially get more heat onto the case body, but the part that act...

Re: Intel DQ77KB: A Low Power LGA1155 Motherboard
can the on-board power circuits handle 4 hdds? Yes. There is a hefty 12v regulator on the board and if you look at it carefully you can see that the 19v in from the power plug is routed on multiple traces directly to the regulator and then directly to the power plug. I don't recall the exact ampera...

Re: Akasa Euler Fanless case
If you mount it, the notches in the VESA mount almost require it to be mounted with the fins vertical.
Also, this arrangement leaves the two vent holes in the case sides bottom and top, which would give the best convection flow to cool the rest of the MB.
