Coolermaster Sileo 500 - handy!
Hi Mate I've just posted a similar setup - I just used the sponge on the bottom of the case (I have the same one as you) and small cut out high density foam 'feet' to allow airflow. See: http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=59642 Whilst the racks don't dampen the noise, they are very...

Thanks Mike! And WD model nos.
Mike, thanks for confirming that and pointing out that the noise levels on the prospective buy and the old disk were comparable. You're a legend. Keep up the good work - much appreciated to you and your team. :( :) :o  :D Slightly off topic: If anyone's interested in what the code means on WD m...

Suspension vs HDD Brand or Model for noise reduction
Hi All, apologies if I've missed this in my search but: There's been comparisons of different models / brands of HDDs in terms noise, There's been a whole list of suspension and other noise dampening methods, But my question is, does the HDD model matter when using an effective noise dampening metho...

Great contributions people! Thanks. Now the next step is to only use spare capacity in your SSD when you're around and get the SSD to offload automatically onto your mechanical HDD when you're not . "If a drive makes a noise when there's no one around to hear it, does it make any sound?" Hi people Just wondering if there are any advances (newer models) on OPs comprehensive list as I've got similar search criteria. Dell Vostro: anyone using this? Dear All Thanks so much for your detailed reply to my question. I can see that it is definitely a 'no' to a simple solution at least! Update
Hi Seb, everyone... Just a quick update. Decoupled HDDs: I took the HDDs out of their mounts and put one on the foam floor and the other in the cage (also on foam, tight fit sideways) and it made an amazing difference. The hum is pretty much gone. NB: The WD10EADS got to 46C when sitting under the S...

one thing you might want to look into is dust buildup in the heatsinks. Open up the case and take em off. Blow some compressed air through em and get them nice and clean. A heatsink full of dust is about as useless as curtains in Pamela Anderson's bedroom. It will cause the fan to ramp up to full r...

Hey Matija Where I am (Oz) it's not worth shelling out for a DVR. What could fit your mum's needs, is a DVD recorder - if prices there are comparable to here. Any DVR is really only as good as the Electronic Programme Guide. If you don't have EPG broadcasted, and you only have four channels anyway, ...
