Have you tried any anti-vibration mounts, e.g., http://www.emcsolutionsltd.com/pdf/vibration/Disk%20Drive%20mounts.pdf ? The first thing I noticed after assembling my new system in NSK1380 was the CDROM drive vibration, which got transmitted to the desk and, through it, the keyboard and my fingers....

That won't work with the HDT oriented vertically (ie. with the airflow front-to-back). It will probably work with the HDT oriented horizontally, with the fan mounted on top.
