Life Sucks
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KdONBhx78mk Video Summary Life costs an enormously high price. It's very own design (of using pain to direct concern and attention, as well as life eating life) necessitates much suffering. The magnitude of suffering and horrors that have taken place on this planet ov...

The author (Gary) hosts a weekly pubic video debate room on Saturday night US eastern time on Stickam.com. Starts around midnight. No set agenda, broad range of topics discussed. Expect some coarse language and the occasional troll trying to ruin the show. If you wish to listen in and or ask him a q...

I don't have any reason to suspect they're not insulated.ces wrote: Are the ends electrically insulated?
Note - they may not fit under your north bridge if it has a backplate.

Re: Rear-mount Thermal Blocks
You mean those little blue tubes? Yes
Are the white ends made of something that will not short the board? sticky thermal tape/pad I think
What are they made of? Aluminium
Where can you buy them? google: Zalman ZM-RTB1
I heard installation can be tricky because the ends aren't sticky enough.

My i7 seems to be only drawing 22w at the same speed (i.e. 2Ghz), not bad for a "furnace". To the "furnace" poster, I wasn't suggesting using an i7 to go passive, I was merely documenting the undervolting capabilities of my combo. So what is the best chip/motherboard combo to do a low powered i7. O...

Also, rule until like 2012 or beyond: there are no low wattage quad chips. You need to be less than 45 watts on draw to even consider being passive in a build. Take a look at this Quad Q8400S undervolt 0.925V 24W one fan need to be removed http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=55084 ...

I'd go for a combo that undervolts really well. After undervolting everything in the bios. My system seems to run cooler, particularly the cpu at load. As a guide, my i7 undervolts as follows (p95, blend 8 thread load): 0.720v at 1.8Ghz 0.752v at 2.0Ghz At these voltage/speeds, the cpu power consump...

What about 2 x Silverstone ST45NF load sharing in a case that supports dual ATX PSUs such as CoolerMaster ATCS 840, Silverstone TJ07, etc. Doesn't get any better than this noise wise. I was looking at some of your early post and it looks like you're mounting the radiator in the P182's lower chamber....

1. Would a passive PSU like that require any special airflow considerations when used in an Antec P183 case? Depends on the amount power being drawn from the PSU. You can mount a very quiet undervolted fan in the lower chamber. Would the "default" airflow be sufficient? I'd say yes with my componen...

WOW! I do not like hearing that. That fanless Silverstone ST45NF unfortunately isn't available in Denmark. There's a fanless 300w supply but that would probably be cutting it a bit short! I'm not recommending any PSU, too many unknowns due to sample variance. I'm only commenting about my personal e...

I had a CP-850 in my system and it was rubbish noise wise. The fan was noisy at idle due to a ticking sound, I could also hear intermittent coil whine at night. So I replaced it with a Silverstone ST45NF which has been dead silent for me. I'm using a Gigabyte EX58 mobo in my current system and don't...

Not even going to try undervolting. No reason to. Yes, no reason to undervolt if your system is mostly idle. However, if you often run CPU intensive tasks, the benefits can be substantial. Here's proof using an extreme example - when undervolted and running prime95, my i7 cpu's temp dropped 15 degs...

I'm also disappointed about the lack of progress on the fanless front. Until there's a cost effective alternative, the Fan will remain deity on this site. Given that the TNN 300 does not support Intel's latest 1156 and 1366 socket/platforms, my concern is that you won't be able to upgrade or replace...

May I ask what's your impression of P18x cases? I'm looking at the smaller version(mini P180). Or do you have any suggestions about similar ones(not really big, built in noise dampening, not too eye catching)? I'd go for an Antec Solo. Solo is about the same size. Unless you're upgrading to a high-...

Wow, a i7 920 in a slim HTPC case with no case fans. My ST45NF is always dead silent. Sounds like you're hearing coil whine. If you're certain the noise is coming from the PSU, RMA it or ask for a refund. i7 920 should undervolt to around 0.95v @ stock speed. Manufacturer's website suggests that a P...
