Cool, thx for the comments. It's very helpful. Today I found a splitter that has 3x 3-pin fan connectors for 5V, 7V, and 12V which all connect to a single 4-pin molex power connector. I'm experimenting with the different voltages to see about temps and noise. I also picked up a PWM splitter (3 fans ...

Thanks for the feedback. @El Jefe, a fan controller seems like a decent alternative to PWM, especially if it's more responsive and smoother as you said. Which rheobus fan controllers would you recommend? BTW, I read this on the wikipedia page re: PWM while getting up-to-speed on the technology: "Var...

silencing solutions, PWM and 3/4 pin fan questions

Hi silent enthusiasts, I have a question regarding fan RPM/noise management which I'm hoping you clever folks can help with... First, here's the situation: I've built a new system (partially using advice from this forum) and am very happy with it but would like to decrease the fan noise a bit. I've ...

You guys must be right that the HR-01+ should fit in the P183 as the specs shows it's height to be 159.5mm vs 161mm for the Coolermaster V8 and 160mm for the Noctua NH-D14. I guess the measurements I'm taking must be wrong. I measured from the motherboard to the inside edge of the case, but perhaps ...

Wait, here is a solution If you look around SPCR you will see that MikeC several times has modded stock Intel cpu coolers by removing the fan and lashing a nexus fan to the Intel fins. I think the results from these mods didn't do that badly. You can try that and see what happens. I would keep an a...

It fits in my P180 on a Gigabyte EP45-DS3R. It easily cools my E8500 with a direct mounted fan. Speedfan idles the fan at around 495 RPM. Excellent, Jason, thank you very much! I suppose that means it will fit P183 as well (since I'll be taking that one since they ran out of P182's)? I mean, height...

I think based on this comment though http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=48605 My HR-01 Plus doesn't seem to touch the side panel either, by... 0.5mm I'd say :) there might be a clearance issue with the P183, because the width of the case is 205cm, whereas it is 210cm for the P182 w...

Ok cool. I'm going to take some measurements soon to see if there will be any obstructions.

Also, there was mention of setting the fan voltage (if I add a fan too). Is this done within the BIOS or some other way?

One followup question as I'm leaning towards getting the Thermalright HR-01 Plus... I'd like to try it fanless first. So, if I remove the motherboard and install the heatsink fanless and then later realize it needs a fan, will I need to remove the entire motherboard again to attach the fan, or not? ...

Thanks ces. I do want to emphasize quiet, so I went to Thermalright's website but the HR-01 PLUS is not listed and discontinued on Newegg so I'm guessing it's no longer made, though it is available through Amazon. Should I be considering one of the current models like the MUX-120 Venomous X instead?...

quieter replacement for 1156 i5-750 stock heat sink & fa

Hi everyone, I just built my first system and it came together nicely but it's not quite as quiet as I would like. I've determined that the stock heat sink and fan is the component making the most noise, so I'd like to replace that with something quieter. I've read some threads and reviews on the si...

Something must've gotten screwed up during the uninstall process and from the instructions I was under the impression they need...

reinstallation problem with i5-750 heatsink and fan

Hi, I just put together my first rig and all went well so far except that I got a "CPU Fan error" from the BIOS on bootup and discovered that the CPU fan wasn't spinning. So, I tried plugging it into the CHA_FAN1 port instead of CPU_FAN and still nothing so I uninstalled the fan and heatsink to insp...

P183 - need help with fan setup

Hi, I just purchased a new rig based in a P183 Antec case and an ASUS P7P55D-E motherboard. This is my first build. So far, I seem to have everything installed alright. I haven't tried booting yet though, so we'll see. Anyway, my only question now is re: the fan setup. I'm a little confused about ho...

Well, I think this is the rig I'm gonna put together. My impression is that this should give me decent speeds for my needs and be rather quiet. The only thing I'm not sure about is which case to get. Right now I'm between the Antec 180, 183, 300 or the CoolerMaster 690 (or a 690 variant). Opinions o...
