Re: Antec Quiet Mini Tower case fan is not quiet - help ?
Hi, sorry for the slow response. To answer your questions Abula. 1) What CPU/Mobo you have? I have an Intel i7-950 CPU and a Gigabyte SKT-1366 GA-X58A-UD7 Mobo. 2) Does the mobo have 3pin or 4pin fan connectors? It has 4 pin connectors. 3) What cpu cooler are you using? Stock/aftermarket? Aftermarke...

Re: Antec Quiet Mini Tower case fan is not quiet - help ?
Abula, thank you very much for this info. I think that the noise is coming from the case fan so I wonder if I can connect a Zalman controller to the case fan. The Zalman controller states that it is for a CPU fan. Since the CPU on my computer is already colled by a fan which is not controlled I pres...

Antec Quiet Mini Tower case fan is not quiet - help ?
Hi, Having built a quiet PC using info from threads on SPCR (thank you all very much, it would have been impossible without this forum) I am pleased with the result but a bit dissapointed with the noise of the case fan. From the info on various threads I had expected not to be able to hear anythinng...

Re: Recommended Motherboards: From a Silence Perspective 1.1
Hi, Nothing much posted since 2010 so could anyone reccommend a current range? I have been looking at Gigabyte GA X58 USB3 (~£140 on amazon) and Gigabyte GA EX58 UD5 (~£400 on amazon). These two boards are vastly different in price - can anyone comment on either from the point of view of building a ...

Re: Graphics Card for 3D design
Not sure which of these apps really support cuda, but I'm quite sure if they benefit from it you don't want NVS cards. Adobe state that their current versions (CS5) support 64 bit and CUDA, as do Solid Works and Autocad, so it seems that there would be much to gain by using a graphics card that can...

Graphics Card for 3D design
Hi, I need a GPU which will get well involved with contributing processing power when using 3d design, along with autocad, illustrator and photoshop. I understand that the best card for this is one with nVidia CUDA technology and is put in nVidia 'Quadro' cards. I also would like at least 2 'Display...

Not sure about Solidworks, but here is Adobe's support list for GPU acceleration. Acrobat 9, After Effects CS4, Bridge CS4, Flash Player 10, Photoshop CS4, and Premiere Pro CS4 all can use the GPU . . . . . Thank you very much. I was worried after corrions post that it was only nVidia GPU's which c...

Quiet / Silent external hard drive?
Can anyone recommend a very quiet external HDD? I appreciate that no one has bothered to make a totally silent one for the huge market that awaits them, so I am prepared to accept a bit of noise. A search for "quiet external hard drives" just throws up some 2008 threads and so the links are dead. A ...

He recommended the ATI because it's faster than the Nvidia for gaming, so it was a honest suggestion. CUDA is basically a programming language that takes advantage of Nvidia's parallel processing power. All cards above the 8000 series have it for Nvidia, but ATI has yet to release an equivalent to ...

Which cards accelerate which image/video/3D design app's ??
All GPU's seem to accelerate all games. However, 3D design programs like Solidworks, image programs like Adobe Photoshop and graphic design programs like Illustrator do not appear to be accelerated by all cards. I use these programs and so need to know. Unfortunately, I am finding it very difficult ...

If it is one of the big AC coolers with wide fin spacing, it probably works just as well if not better than the Gigabyte HS -- assuming the RAM is heatsinked as well. Just add a slow quiet 120mm fan on or near the video card if you suspect it's too hot. There are many software video temp monitors. ...

Re: programs?
The big question from your list is if the programs you have there are accelerated with ATI cards, most programs out now that can take advantage of GPU processing use CUDA, which is only available on nvidia gpus. I'm not sure if you're using Solidworks just for GPU drawing capability or gpu processi...

Hello (and help!) from a Newbie - bought a "silent"
Hi, I just found this forum when searching for info on a passive cooled ATI 4850 1G. I have a question - if anyone can help in any way it would be greatly appreciated. Background: I told a custom build supplier of silent computers (arbico.co.uk) that I wanted a silent PC which was capable of playing...
