Clean and nice cable management.
Was a little concerned about the X-460 but if you're getting a slight breeze through there then it's all good.

Re: Best Case for the Inevitable GTX 680
Since they are rushing the 680 out I predict it will be more alike the 480 in heat and noise, the 580 was an improved version of 480 (what it would have been if they hadn't rushed it).

I never run any fan on 100% , always 30-50% depending on noise/cooling requirements. Why buy good fans and have them noisy?
And that 6850 tip is pretty good.
After I caught the quiet bug, I'm way to sensitive to any noise at all from my computers.

Are the side panels vibrating? If so try to just add some resistance to them so they're not loose. See if that solves the problem. No problem with vibration from any HDD? Just the GPU fan speed affecting it? Try to manually put the fan on Max and then dial it down (not running any games and stuff) a...

Re: silent and efficient pc
If you want the new PC to be quiet you have to be VERY careful about your choices in: 1: Graphics card, This is your main screamer. Find one with a cooling solution that is relatively quiet, or get stock and buy a 3rd party quiet cooler option. 2: Your case and CPU heat sink fans. The noctua HS fans...

Have you looked at the power draw of the Son and Dad builds? Those graphic cards "might" become to much for that 250W power supply. TDP on both cards is similar @ 105~Watt. I took a closer look at that power supply and it's rating is 65% efficiency @ 100% load. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product....

Re: Nexus 120 as heatsink pull fan?
I've got quite a few Nexus 120 fans (computer 2), in the case and 2 on my Megahelem heatskink in Push/Pull configuration. Only thing I have ever noticed is the air whoosh if I turn the fans on 100%. A bit of a strange problem you have. But as with any problem solving, change the equation and test ag...

How is the PSU positioned? Is it at the top or the bottom of the case. If at the bottom is the fan facing the floor? If it is facing the floor, try flipping it over and see if that fixes the fan issue. If it's at the top is there space for it at the bottom of the case? When you place the PSU upside ...

Re: Building a Quiet Video/Audio Production Machine
The noisiest parts of the computer are going to be: 1) GPU, so get a decently silent cooler. Or go reference and replace cooler with a good after market cooler. 2) CPU HS, easy to fix: http://www.silentpcreview.com/Recommended_Heatsinks 3) HDDs, try to prevent vibration getting into the case and hav...

Re: advice needed on scratch built
My Seasonic X-750W PSU doesn't get that hot in computer 1(sig). Since I let convection draw the heat. Heat enters the case though, but I've got decent blow through. Now in my comp 2(sig) the fan would get turned on alot, until I turned it over so heat wouldn't get trapped in there. PSU at the bottom...

I would check with the dealer or with Yamaha to see if it's supposed to get that hot. If not you might have a faulty product. Best to check the soonest while on warranty.

Why not have the PSU in the same side as the HDDs and skip the middle section. Have it lie on it's side with a hole in the wall with the MB section and it can suck out heat from there when/if it heats up. You can move one or both fans in the HDDs section up. I don't see a fan on the CPU Heatsink, no...

cut out some small cardboard pieces and put it in between the fans and the HS (all 4 corners). See if a little more space won't fix the noise issue.

Just pick a top runner CPU cooler on the SPCR recommended list, dial down the fans on it to the lowest possible and reap the reward of never having to worry. I run the computer in my 1) in my signature on normal range very silently. It's only when one of my storage HDDs spins up that I notice any no...

Get a big nice heat sink on the CPU like a Silver Arrow or something similar, you can run those fans pretty quiet and still get very decent cooling. Research aftermarket cooling on the 570/580 and choose the most quiet solution, for the best value for your money of course. Here is a chart you can us...

It does seem that all household fans are designed only with moving air and no thought for noise pollution.
I'd say go for it. I would also think about a speed control for the fans.

you could set the fan speed manually in the bios, or buy a fan controller. If the fans are on auto heat sensitive then something is heating up the computer.

Yes, but some motherboards don't support voltage regulation on 4pin PWM header. Since the PWM just turns the fan off and on really fast to get the required speed.

I've read through both reviews. And it comes to this, do you intend to go X-fire later and the 3 slot Asus blocks the only other GPU slot on the MB go Sapphire.
The Asus edges out on better cooling and less noise on load. Both have 2GB of memory so they can take 3way-finity.

You can't put the BIOS control on Cool'N'Quiet mode?
If the bios is ramping them up on idle then something is strange. You could log the CPU temp and see it there is a spike that accounts for the strange fan behavior.
Or you could manually control the fans with a fan controller unit.

She probably meant that the MB 4 pin PWM header can not control 3 pin fans with voltage.

The spitfire can be turned either upwards or downwards facing (up towards the case or down into the case). I checked their online installation pdf. How much is the spitfire? With the Shaman you get small heat sinks to put on all the memory and VRM. With the 140mm fan pushing air on top of that you d...

In quiet computing it's all about getting a big enough heat sink on cpu & gpu and quality quiet fans. And for selecting the fans definitively use the SPCR recommended list. Don't just read the manufacturers marketing slogan on the box, they usually lie about "quiet" stuff :). OCing the new K serious...
