Re: Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E335 vs. Samsung Series 5 535U3C
In case you are still deciding between these two I can share my opinion on Samsung with you. I have it since September and am quite satisfied. Before I started using it extensively I have done 2 modifications: 1) Installed an SSD (you'll need a 7 mm thick one); 2) Re-applied thermal paste on the CPU...

Re: Which fan controller for FT02
You may want to stay away from touch controllers, since controlling via knobs is much easier, especially if you have your pc on the side. I would strongly advice Lamptron FC5 v2. Got myself one and am very happy with it. It has 4 channels, but each one supports ~30 watts (it is like 10 fans?) and vi...

The ultimate fan controller is Lamptron FC5 (Version 2!!!). 30W per channel, the best display on the market, awesome looks, 8 or so options for display color, top quality.

Re: Quest for a 13" dead silent!
I have read somewhere the MacBook Air is not that silent after all. Approach with caution.
Check out Dell's Vostro V13/V130 line. I wrote about it in another topic in this section. In regard to silence comes damn close to 9/10 IMO.

Re: HELP! Laptop doesn't see HDDs after BSOD
Hi, thanks for the reply. To clarify a couple things: 1) I have messed around in BIOS, made a reset, it didn't help. I tried to flash it an update it, but failed, because could find proper instructions yet; 2) I know that other drives are not recognized, because I tried to install Windows 7 on them ...

HELP! Laptop doesn't see HDDs after BSOD
Hi, guys. Somehow I cannot post at Tom's Hardware, where I usually post whne I have general problems, so I ask for your help. I have a Dell Vostro V13 with Kingston SSD (V 100 G2 64 Gb). At work I was doing some programming when my laptop froze and I got a BSOD. After that my attempts to start it re...

Re: Dell Vostro V130
I have the old version Vostro V13 with SU7300. The laptop is silent after you install a SSD - the fan spins only when you are doing something really intensive. While doing office, web, programming the fan doesn't even spin. Two concerns though: - Sometimes you can hear some whine from inside, which ...

Hi,
1) For the first issue see this topic: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=61186
2) I have heard on some forums that it works generally fine in those slots. Check a topic about FT02 on hardforum. It has over 100+ pages, I bet you will find answer on anything there.

Re: Lull in CPU Market?
1) Why do you want to upgrade from i7-920? Even if you are doing some super CPU-intensive tasks for your master's degree, your CPU is perfectly fine. Getting a new mobo and CPU and getting rid of the old ones will cost you money and time. Personally, I don't think that the difference in productivity...

Re: I was so close to acceptable, then I bought a WD5000AAKX
How come nobody mentioned Scythe Quiet Drive? Basically, it is a box with foam inside where you put your HDD to make it silent. If you are in USA or EU you should have no problems getting it. It is about 30$ - 30 EUR. It is the best solution after SSD for quiet drives. You can put practically any HD...

Overclocking XFX 6850: PCB incredibly hot!
Hi, I have been overclocking my XFX 6850 to play Witcher 2 today. Following the anandtech overclock article: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4002/amd-radeon-hd-6850-overclocking-roundup-asus-xfx-msi/8 , I have overclocked it to 940/1200 on 1.172V. Re: 5770 + Accelero S1 Mod: Which fan to use?
kuzzia, Powercolor (and all passive OEM 5750 models) do not use Accelero S1, they use they own heatsinks. S1 is about 50% larger than what you have on your card. (I have a passive 5750 and S1 on 6850). chico, I would advice Scythe Jyu fans 100mm wide. Two of them will fit on S1 PERFECTLY and they ar...

Re: Moving HDDs out of the computer?
Really, don't bother building anything yourself. Get a Scythe Quiet Drive enclosure and put your HDD's in there. SQD for 2.5" drives are widely available, for 3.5" drive - not really. Check ebay. It may cost some money - 20-30$ a piece, but it will dampen 90% of the noise. I think it is the cheapest...

Re: Suggestions for 120mm+ horizontal for accelero s1
I would suggest using 2 Scythe Jyu 100mm fans rather than one 120mm. 1) They fit perfectly: not bulky, cover all the surface, do not take up an extra PCI slot; 2) S1 fins are kinda apart, so you don't need high pressure fan to push the air through, you just need to blow on the fins - these fans suff...

Re: Accelero S1 won't fit on Sapphire 6850
Just use some other smaller, separate heatsinks that fit. I have an XFX 6850 and had exactly the same situation. Actually, my Accelero didn't even have this large, long heatsink, only a lot of small ones. (Maybe, you will have to use that extra VRM001 heatsink set from AC.) I put 3 separate heatsink...

Re: Accelero S1 Rev.2 for HD6850/HD6870/5870
Hi, S1 cools 6850 perfectly. If you don't do OC or Furmark it may work completely passively (but adding a fan helps a lot). I would advice to get 2 Scythe Jyu fans, those 100mm in diameter. They are little harder to install (need to use zipties), but they are much better and quieter then Turbo modul...

Re: Passive (Accelero S1 Rev. 2) Gigabyte Radeon HD6850
Not bad. You may want to install a couple of fans on it and run them REALLY slow to shave off 8-10 degrees. An AC Turbo module or Scythe Jyu fans will fit perfectly.

Re: Which PWM, CPU or Specialty Fan do you Want SPCR to Revi
My preferences would be: 1) Arctic Cooling 32mm thick fans. I got a 92mm PWM model and must say that the quality is amazing. The mounting system is very good with no or little vibration at high RPM and the airflow is good. Maybe, even better than Slipstream at the comparable low noise level despite ...

Scythe Slipstreams are good. But you don't really have to undervolt them that much, I have a 1200 rpm version running on 600 rpm and it is silent within my case (FT02).

Yeah, I know about the fans with 120mm holes, but then the sides of the fan will be kinda covered with the fan frame? And I just really want an Air Penetrator - they are great at delivering airflow at long distances (what I want to use for cooling my VGA). You mean mechanical noise or "air" noise be...

Fans and 120mm to 140mm fan adaptors
Hi! I want to fit a fan into my three 5 25" slots. There is space for a 140mm fan, but I could find only a 120mm frame for that purpose: http://www.sharkoon.com/?q=en/content/rebel9-fan-frame I plan to use it on the INSIDE side of the 5 25 slot, so that the fan is closer to the VGA. I really like Si...

Re: Best passive and quiet performance GPU for fortress ft02
Is it easy enough to replace the topfan and undervolt the bottom fans (can you control them like any other fan)? You just have to unscrew 4 screws and then screw them back. As simple as it can be. The bottom fans have two connectors each: one is with the switch near the top fan for speeds 700/1200 ...

Re: Best passive and quiet performance GPU for fortress ft02
the only truly quiet fan setting on the ft02 is when the big fans are so undervolted that they tick for a couple of minutes on startup, and you've replaced and undervolted the top fan... anything beyond that is very audible, and the noise comes right out the top of the case. Not really. The Air Pen...

Re: Best passive and quiet performance GPU for fortress ft02
Stock passive cards are not worth it. I had a passive 5750 and it was constantly too hot for me (with bottom fans on ~540rpm). The temps were 40-45C on idle and up to 80ies while gaming. Accelero S1 works really well in the case. Put it and AC Turbo module, undervolt all your fans until you cannot h...

Re: Fortress II or not? The heatpipe 'issue'.
Well, an Accelero S1 + Fortress 2 seems like the best solution to me. I have this combination, but with the 6850 card and the temps are amazing (~30-33C idle) even with 180mm fans on 400rpm and the rest ~600-700rpm. If the PC is at least 80cm away from your ears, the thing will be marginally silent....
