Re: Cooling an external hard drive
Thanks for the information! This sounds like it should be OK if I connect a new drive as is without the enclosure, maybe elevated on some small grommets to let air get to the lower side. The Hitachi drives seem to have pretty low power consumption, judging by SPCR's review, so I guess they should be...

Re: Cooling an external hard drive
Thanks for your answer! I agree... I don't really plan to use the drive again. At the very least, the computer refusing to boot was a clear indication of trouble. However, I'm worried that there is some problem in principle with a 2.5" hard drive running 24/7 without directed airflow. If I buy anoth...

Cooling an external hard drive
(Sorry, this is not really noise related, but rather power/heat related...) Until recently, I had a 40 Gb Seagate LD25.2 (originally from a 40 GB PS3) in a cheap aluminum enclosure (USB powered) connected via USB to my modem/router, which would offer it as NAS to the internal network. No cooling was...

Re: looking for a silent Blu-Ray ROM
I also own the LiteOn iHOS 104, and I'm very pleased with it. It's very quiet and stays reasonably cool even after extensive usage. I bought it on the spur of the moment because it was the cheapest I could find, but it turned out to be a good buy. To qualify, by "very quiet" I mean I can't hear it o...

I have a different CPU, but the same case. The Scythe Ninja mini does not seem to be available anymore, so I'm thinking about getting a Scythe Samurai ZZ. According to the SCPR test, it seems to be very effective, and the dimensions should fit the case well. On the other hand, I'm not an expert, but...

Thank you for your reply! It looks like I can give it a try with the Papst. I was also worried about the startup voltage, but connecting it directly to the MB sounds like a good solution. However, I'm wondering how to connect it. How did you get the fan cable out of the PSU? I've heard that this is ...

Antec EarthWatts 380w fan swap with Papst 8412 N/2GLE?
Hi, I have an Antec NKS-2480 Case that includes their Earthwatts 380 PSU. The PSU fan seems to be the loudest part of the system, so I'm thinking about a fan swap. Now, I have a Papst 8412 N/2GLE lying around that I'd like to use rather than spending money, but I'm not sure if it is safe to use it f...
