My almost 1 fan system
I just finished upgrading my computer to an Athlon 64 3000+ venice, DFI Lanparty nf4 Ultra-D, and eVGA 6600GT. I kept my old ram (512 DDR333 + 512 DDR400), hard drives (72gb Raptor, 120gb Maxtor DM9), PSU (Seasonic SS 400), and DVD burner. I put a Thermalright XP-120 on the CPU, and undervolted it t...

Their industry (petroleum geology) can have some pretty demanding calculations. My parents just upgraded some of their older P4s since they were too slow... trying to imagine someone still using a system with just a 5.25"... More on topic, I really want one of these, too bad I need the money...

I just replaced some heatsinks. I'm using a DFI Lanparty nf4 Ultra-D. https://mywebspace.wisc.edu/tgcluff/web/mobo.jpg Unfortunately, it seems to run too hot to run my chipset fanless, but my undervolted (but not underclocked) 3000+ venice handles it fine; 54C under full load. I wish I could get my ...

The accuracy of the figures in the image is in serious doubt. The text on the Via page says that the C7 die is 30mm2. The actual size of the C3 die is 25mm2! Good god. The yields on it will be incredible, I'm sure it'll be very cheap to make. I wouldn't be too worried about the cooling, even with t...

i dont find floppies very useful, but i guess for some raid drivers. I just had to use one to flash my BIOS; I couldn't boot to windows with a Venice on my mobo without an update. I have to agree, floppies aren't very useful, but when you need one, there's pretty much no way to get around it. I kno...

I've got a DFI Lanparty NF4 Ultra-D. I'm using an XP-120, which misses the ram but probably blocks the first PCI-E slot (I'm not sure, since I don't have a card to try in there). I'm using a Zalman 47J on the chipset, which blocks any cards longer than the 16x slot in the 2nd slot. It also doesn't s...

i'd love LCD but the technology is still immature and i have forseen the technology to get Much better by the time this g200 dies.. I'd hardly say that; I've never seen a CRT come close to the quality of my Dell 2001FP or my sister's 2005FPW. As for DVI, my experience with Matrox cards on LCDs is p...

The slots are right next to each other. That seems like a really bad idea. A terrible one even. I think it's highly doubtful that if they keep the spacing like that there will be any worthwhile options considerable by SPCRers. But, maybe they've come up with something to make sure that's not a probl...

DFI NF4 Ultra-D undervolting with CrystalCPUID
I just got a 3000+ Venice and a DFI Lanparty NF4 Ultra-D. Of course, I've been experimenting with undervolting and underclocking it. Unfortunately; I haven't been able to set the voltage lower than 1.1 volts using CrystalCPUID. Has anyone else been able to get it lower? It shouldn't be a problem run...

Well, the review of the raptor certainly goes well with my experiences. I've found the idle noise to be excellent, on par with the quietest drives I've heard. The performance is excellent as well. Though the seek noise is clearly audible, I've never found it annoying. I know I'm not the only person ...

Point is, there's no HyperThreading needed to take advantage of a dual core CPU. :) Yes, but only since the release of hyperthreading have many software developers really paid attention to multithreading. Because of this, pretending to have hyperthreading will cause some (I have no idea how many) p...

It would seem like whatever it is, it must have some sort of massively high surface tension to be able to touch things without being absorbed. I could swear that surface tension is one of the things that actually prevents effective heat transfer in the first place, so it would seem like this may no...

It's been quite some time since I've been on here, but it has come to my attention that some infidels are intending to pass me! 2, 3, whats the difference? Its pretty far from 128 regardless. But still, it's my understanding, based on the 2001 super computing convention (I ditched school to visit it when it was in denver) that the athlon xps get 2 flops a cycle. If you can provide a source with the actual number that would b...

nah, its only $10,000 without software. But its got 25 gigaflops! 128 FPUs kind of owns AMD's 2. I don't know where they got double the 3 ghz P4 though, the P4 doesn't even come close! And thats not even counting the 64 non-fp ALUs! And just imagine overclocking that thing.... at 3 watt power consum...
