Re: Psu fan mounted facing up (top mounted) in storebuilt sy

Maybe this would have been better under Power Supplies. I will add I meant the reason for having it store built was I lack the fundamental knowledge and little things on how to orient things, cords or mounting coolers and so on as I have never built a computer. My wording was a bit dubious, if it se...

Psu fan mounted facing up (top mounted) in storebuilt system

I received it about a week ago and only looked inside it now. Its in a Antec Solo and its a Cooler Master Silent Pro M700 psu and the label is upsidedown and no fan downwards. Should I talk to them about it? I was shocked and instantly thought "wrong", but then I started searching and sometimes the ...

Re: Quiet PC Plan

I'm more or less done ordering a build with a Solo. I thought the Solo had better sound dampening vs. the R3? The impression I had gotten reading around is that it leaks more noise. I remember one particular comment which stated the R3 was more noisy than the P180 that preceeded it. Hope this is cor...

Re: XFX Black Edition vs Coolermaster Silent Pro

Thanks. I guess Mugen 2 would qualify as a large heatsink. Another option to the M700 might be a Fractal Design Newton R2 650W, same price point. Heres some numbers from a swedish testbench: Load |Exhaust temp. |RPM 25% 30°C 608 50% 32°C 785 75% 33°C 1161 100% 36°C 1498 So probably similar, especial...

I was too fast to assume the testing rig used in the CM review was the hot box. Thanks. Seeing those figures I am inclined to get the XFX. Are the length of the cables an issue even if the one assembling knows what he/she is doing?

Re: XFX Black Edition vs Coolermaster Silent Pro

Thank you quest_for_silence, great that you have actually tried the XFX. It will be in a Solo (w a GTX460). Would the Seasonic have a higher chance of exhibiting coil whine? I have read around, and apparently this can be one of the downsides to Seasonic, not just the MD12. Its one thing I would real...

XFX Black Edition vs Coolermaster Silent Pro

SB has finally come back in full over all mobo makes and I will put in a order in the following days. My choice of PSU is narrowed down to these two: XFX Black Edition 750W Coolermaster Silent Pro 700W The XFX is a OEMed M12D (or something close to it) with an Adda fan. Also it lacks OCP apparently ...

As said I dont know the first thing about pins, molex and headers and whats what, so I may have misunderstood something. Or its an exception.

Thanks guys, that is good to know about Speedfan. I guess thats why it feels kinda uncertain, between (and combining) splitters, pin adapters, pwm - which I dont have a full understanding of when it has bearing and not - and PWM fans being 3-pin mostly while the cpu header is 4 - effectively killing...

Re: Build lacking PSU, impact of 7200 drives and more

However, as a very personal thought, inside the Solo I don't think you wouldn't stand those "turbulent" Noctuas. True, and they might not even break 1000rpm and then it is a non-issue, I just want to make sure the fans are as smooth sounding as possible if they ever did. This is where my experience...

Re: Build lacking PSU, impact of 7200 drives and more

I have a hard time deciding between a Noctua NH-C14 and a Mugen 2 rev b with 2 Slipstream fans. I can stomach how the slipstreams sound, from recordings, even with 12v while the Noctuas have a turbulent sound. The Noctua cools the mobo. Would I be as happy without that? I am also thinking the push-p...

Re: Worth replacing MSI Cyclone cooler?

This might be of no consequence as you mentioned Afterburner, but apparently they updated the firmware three or four months back and adjusted the temperature roof to keep the noise down (measured to 21.5 dB if memory serves in independent testing) during gaming, if you haven't done it already. It se...

Re: Please critique - semi passive sandy bridge

Newsegg allows the opportunity for the manufacturer to respond to reviews, and in that case they responded. I agree, and it could also be a case of having dispersed the psus over several systems as an small time it-consultant making each claim unique, for example. But I think it is fair of them - on...

Re: Build lacking PSU, impact of 7200 drives and more

I have never really had a good stable cpu+gpu+cooling combo that shines with games, so it is tempting to get the 460. But the 450 is near silent (15dB) at full loads if I understand the ht4u.net measurements correctly. So that is pretty remarkable as well. And it would save me $50. But if they idle ...

Re: Build lacking PSU, impact of 7200 drives and more

The NH-C14 has been the very first top-down cooler which turn out as able to cool down the CPU as much as the tower ones (with the current SPCR heatsinks test setup), and therefore it has to be highly regarded (as you may know a top-down cooler also cool the motherboard, and more likely it may fit ...

Re: Build lacking PSU, impact of 7200 drives and more

For your system, just about any ATX-PSU will do. You could go with a venerable Seasonic SII12-350w, if you wanted. They are relatively quiet. More expensive ones like the Seasonic X-series or Enermax's Modu87+ are even quieter under all conditions, that's why they are favored on SPCR. If you go wit...

Re: Build lacking PSU, impact of 7200 drives and more

You should reconsider your choice of case. I use a Solo in my current system but it is tweaked with perfectly matched components for very low noise and I don't recommend it for a newbie if you plan on a GPU that approaches 100W. Choose, instead, a case that places the PSU on the bottom. ... Thanks ...

Thank you for telling me! I would have gotten it otherwise. From what I can collect a S12-II 520W will be $10-20 more, the M12-II an extra 10 to that, and the modular TP-550 nearly the same as the S12, so the cheaper choice if I want modular. Can modular cord organization help with keeping the syste...

Re: Build lacking PSU, impact of 7200 drives and more

Maybe a dual-fan cooler is bad for the Solo From this thread : I'd like to see a tower fan that doesn't rely on the PSU airflow at all. I have a Mugen2 on i7-920 and with Slipstream fans at 660 rpm on it and as case fan it only reaches 50C with 8 Prime95 threads. But my SPCR-recommended Enermax Pro8...
