Re: Radeon 7770 and 7750 reviews out

I have just got the Sapphire HD7750 (not the Ultimate) and the performance is 7% lower than the HD5770 that it has replaced, but the consumption is fantastic! It consumes over 45w less than before in games (average) which is a massive 45% reduction in power consuption. I can still play Crysis, BF3 a...

Re: Low airflow top-down CPU heatsink

Thanks. Adex is another source for risers, you just have to find someone who sells their products. Distributors: http://www.adexelec.com/adexhm.htm Are you sure that they still trade? Their website is still in the 90s.. /joke After testing the temps thoroughly, I have managed to get the speeds hone...

Re: Low airflow top-down CPU heatsink

kiblams: Where did you get the PCIe riser? I'm trying to find one that's at least 7" long, excluding the connectors. Unfortunately I was only able to find one place selling them cheap in the UK and that was an Amazon Marketplace, I took the risk and thankfully it arrived and works great. It is only...

Re: Which quiet mid-profile heatsink?

I got the Samurai ZZ yesterday and can confirm that it is only 95mm tall with the 92x25mm fan fitted.

Very happy with the performance so far without the fan fitted (I have a 220mm side fan). Hope this information helps.

Re: Low airflow top-down CPU heatsink

So the Samurai ZZ arrived and has been fitted, bad news; the Scythe fan is a little too close to the 220mm fan in order to be used, but the great news is that the temperatures with the fanless Samurai are fantastic considering that the 220mm fan is running at a very slow RPM. Here is a show with the...

I will be trying both ways, to see the cooling vs. noise of each set-up.

It will arrive tomorrow at work so I will be able to let you know before Tuesday.

Re: Low airflow top-down CPU heatsink

Greetings kiblams. Brilliant piece of work. Two low profile coolers for you r consideration: Samuel 17 and Titan TTC-NK95/HS . Best regards. Cheers. I think I am decided on the Scythe Samurai ZZ as the extra height will put the heatsink much closer to the 220mm fan and should give the better airflo...

Got home and took a close up photo of the area in question and upon closer inspection the graphics card is maybe 5mm over whete it would be if I had it plugged directly into the PCI-e port. Re: Low airflor top-down CPU heatsink

There is a fundamental flaw with the case. There is a place for the air to go in, but no place for it to exit. That can perhaps be fixed by just removing the 220mm fan but leaving the fan grating. The case is very much a work in progress, I only got the PCI-e ribbon delivered yesterday and worked o...

Re: Low airflor top-down CPU heatsink

Yes, that's another issue. If the OP is looking for a quiet fan, it isn't so obvious to me that he will really want to use a 220mm fan. If he does, he probably wants even more than 25mm distance between the CPU fan and the side panel fan. It might help if he told us what the exact case is. Thanks f...

Re: Low airflor top-down CPU heatsink

100m is certainly an acheivable goal! Thanks for the info, I have been looking at the Scythe Samurai ZZ already, but i am unsure of the low airflow cooling of it. Looking at the pictures and the dimensions (94 x 122 x 94 mm) one of the 94mm must be the overall height as the heatpipes extend w...

Low airflow top-down CPU heatsink

I have started using a new case and my set-up calls for a reletively short heatsink (less than 100m tall), which means my Xigmatek tower cooler and indeed pretty much all tower coolers are off the cards. Also because I use a 220mm sidefan as my main cooling I am wondering if you guys know of a cheap...

Re: Undervolting ATi 5770 without bios editing

It could be to do with stepping of the voltage, I found that it was only when I reduced the voltage to at least 1.000v that I saw a change. Have you tried going lower that 0.9v to see if that has any impact?

Re: Quiet and Energy Efficient Gaming PC

Thanks for the questions, here are my answers: - what would you say is the most noisiest component? Easily the PSU. I have in the past controlled PSU fans with a mod, but have not yet gotten round to doing that with this one. - how noisy is the PSU? the GPU? The PSU is quiet, and the GPU is currentl...

Quiet and Energy Efficient Gaming PC

I have moved my old gaming build into an older smaller case along with the 220mm fan to keep it all cool, it isn't pretty but the silence is golden the it has great energy efficiency in games. Re: No low-end 28nm GPUs from AMD?

The TDP for your 4770 has roughly 80w peak consumption and the new 7850 has been rated at 90w and the 7670 at 60w, if you ask me, these are pretty good numbers for those like myself who are interested in performance/watt. Even if the cards don't turn out to be more powerful, they look set to use far...

Re: Speedfan now supports ATI (AMD) video cards

This is awesome news! I used to use speedfan for my motherboard fan sockets, though the current motherboard doesn't support them, though it is great to know that when I do get a new motherboard; all of my fans can be controlled by a single app.

Re: Slower than Fanmate 2?

Thanks for the suggestion but after some thought I had a great Idea, I can use the CPU fan connector for the 220mm case fan and use the fanmate for the CPU fan. Now I have the CPU fan on a steady 800RPM and using SpeedFan I can set the casefan to respond to both temps and run much slower :D So chuff...

Slower than Fanmate 2?

I recently had my pc restart for no obvious reason, and now the system fan control doesn't work for my motherboard :( Since then I have been using a Fanmate 2 and the problem is that on the lowest setting it is too fast. I used to set the case fan to 25-32% which was ~260RPM and the lowest that I ca...

Re: Lowest spec fanless graphics card????

If you don't have an onboard solution which can do 2 monitors I would get the ATi 5450, it is passively cooled, draws less than 40w at load and supports Eyefinity which will allow a 3rd monitor down the line if you fancy it.

Yeah, I am ditching my 5770 this week due to a super loud annoying fan. I find the cooler is very quiet (if not silent) at 35% on mine, and 25% speed which it runs at out of games is bliss :D I found out how to get Speedfan to control my second PWM socket on the MB so the side case fan can do it's ...

Re: Silent Cooling for ATI Sapphire Radeon 5750

Just give the stock cooler a fresh supply of air with a side fan and you can turn the fan down to below 35%, that gives you an inaudible cooler even at load.

If I can do it with my 5770, then the 5750 should be a doddle :D
