Re: Nexus 120 as heatsink pull fan?

I've got quite a few Nexus 120 fans (computer 2), in the case and 2 on my Megahelem heatskink in Push/Pull configuration. Only thing I have ever noticed is the air whoosh if I turn the fans on 100%. A bit of a strange problem you have. But as with any problem solving, change the equation and test a...

Re: Nexus 120 as heatsink pull fan?

The Scythe fan is also making this buzzing noise. I'm not sure if it's the push fan blowing air into it's blades or if the fan's blades are spinning too close to the heat sink fins. The spacer technique will solve this problem, but then I cannot get the clip back on. Does anyone have any ideas?

Re: Nexus 120 as heatsink pull fan?

That is not a bad idea, but I instead got another Scythe PWM fan. When it spins down it is very quiet, comparable to the Nexus. I have begun folding and can use all the cooling I can get. This fan spins faster and may cool slightly better.

Re: Best CPU cooler for i5-2500K

I think that there are few coolers that are actually designed based on the architecture of the CPU. Many have brackets that will fit most CPU's as well. I'm sure there are many companies that just slap something together doing very little testing.

Re: Nexus 120 as heatsink pull fan?

1. The Nexus D12SL fan seems to be fairly good at anything. SPCR seems to have had good luck with them in terms of longevity and SPRC has lots and lots of experience with them... far more than any single user. 2. You can get that noise if the fans are running at slightly different speeds. 3. "one a...

Re: Anyone with a Scythe Mugen 2 and a Fractal R3?

Better late than never.... I don't have this case but I have this cooler with the Arc Midi. The fan can move up and down a few centimeters to clear the ram. The cooler can also be rotated 90 degrees so that it will never interfere with the Ram. If the R3 is as big as the Arc Midi you won't have a pr...

Nexus 120 as heatsink pull fan?

Does anyone have any experience using the popular Nexus D12SL fan on a heatsink in a "push pull" configuration? I attached to to my Scythe Mugen 2 and the pull fan makes this loud buzzing resonance when within 1mm of the heatsink. I tried 2 other Nexus fans and they too do this. I don't know if the ...

I'm not so sure I understand. If attempting to under volt there are other safer ways to do it, like using one of those in line resistors, or software, or a fan controller. Why use this method?

Re: What is the quietest 120mm fan?

I'm using 2 case fans- a Scythe Slipstream 120 800rpm fan, and the Nexus 120mm 1000rpm fan. These are both top notch and super quiet. My cpu fan drowns them both out and they are almost silent. The Scythe fan is a bit slimmer and moves less air then the Nexus. Scythe also makes a 500rpm fan which is...

Re: Quietest 80mm fan?

Mmm...do you know if the PWM version behaves better ? I know 120mm PWM is not that good, but I think 92mm PWM is smoother at low speed than 92mm "basic" (or my 92mm basic is a bad one) :?: I have used the 80mm PWM Nexus fan. Think it is called the "Real Silent Case Fan." It was this real annoying h...

Re: New Samsung drive- HD155UI- disappointed with noise

This is my first experience with a high capacity multi-platter drive. Perhaps it is just to be expected that it won't be as quiet as a 500gb hard drive. I will try playing with the alignment and the screws to see if I can improve it. And I will do some research on those Hitachi drives. I am still a ...

New Samsung drive- HD155UI- disappointed with noise

So I was excited to purchase a new drive when my old drive filled up. My previous one is an HD503HI; let me tell you this drive is silent!!! I cannot feel the case vibrating at all and if I put my ear to it I cannot hear idle or seek. I have it in a Silenx enclosure but it is not necessary. My new d...

Samsung HD503HI, how is your's configured in XP.

This is a popular drive among silent PCers. I have posted once before but haven't gotten to the root of the issue. I have XP sp2. I upgraded from an IDE drive to a faster and quieter SATA type. The problem is that it is running in IDE mode or ATA mode. My burst rate is only 84mb/s and max data trans...

Re: Samsung HD503HI Very Silent... But slow... what's wron

Are you using more than 150GB worth of data on the 500GB drive? If you format it at 250GB instead of 500GB you'll force the data on the fastest half of the drive and get better access times as well. If you really want to push it you can format it even smaller and get better performance but if it's ...

Re: Samsung HD503HI Very Silent... But slow... what's wron

I agree this is definitely a driver issue. HD Tune does say that it is running in ATA mode and not SATA. I am willing to try a new cable just to rule it out, although I highly doubt it. I will try and obtain one. (this one does say that it suports 3GB/S) I'm trying not to spend much more money. The ...

Re: Samsung HD503HI Very Silent... But slow... what's wron

Yes perhaps, but I've played with every possible bios option and no dice. I have a theory... when installing OS I think that all PCI cards- sound and video must be removed. I noticed that the Radeon Xpress 200 chipset was never recognized, probably because the cards just disable it. It mainly contro...

Re: Samsung HD503HI Very Silent... But slow... what's wron

Hmmm, right I understand this drive spins slower, but it is supposed to have much greater performance than the original drive. Even though it is an SATA it seems to be running as an IDE or "ultra ata/133." I've been playing with the bios settings for hours and can't seem to fix it.

Samsung HD503HI Very Silent... But slow... what's wrong??

I wanted a faster and quieter drive than my Seagate 7200.7 150GB. This drive was a great replacement, but it's not running as fast as it should. You can see the burst speed that I've benchmarked is half of what others have tested. The old drive was IDE interface and my new one is SATA. XP SP2 was ab...

I have a Nexus Silent 80mm PWM fan. I hooked it up once a few weeks ago and don't like it so it's now sitting in a draw. The one you have is probably the standard 3 pin. Would you be interested? May be good for a comparison. It seemed to have that "growl" you were talking about.

Best technique to cut case

Hi. I have seen a few pictures of this done but I'm not sure what method was used. In my quest for PC silence I've replaced my 80mm case fan with a 92mm Noctua fan. It moves a lot of air and is very quiet. I used the attachment to decrease the voltage- the "Low Noise Adapter." Even though the fan is...

Just wanted to give an update. Right before I was about to take apart the PSU, I wanted to try one last thing... unplug the HD. Re: Noise from Nexus Silent 80mm PWM

I would love to throw the Noctua fan in but I fear that it will not move quite enough air for a CPU. What are your thoughts? In my opinion the Noctua 92mm may be the best 92mm fan around. The R8 is the best 80mm fan that I've seen. I'm thinking of replacing my 80mm Noctua case fan and replacing it ...

Re: Noise from Nexus Silent 80mm PWM

I changed my stock jet engine CPU fan with fan that I have been hearing people rave about. Where? Not here I suppose: AFAIK Nexus PWM fans are not highly regarded here (on the contrary of their voltage controlled brothers). However, you may give a try to the inexpensive Arctic Cooling F8 PWM, if yo...

I changed my stock jet engine CPU fan with fan that I have been hearing people rave about. It is certainly quiet but there is always a certain hum coming from this fan. Antec EA380D not quiet enough

Hi all! This is my first post. After doing some research and wanting an efficient, quiet, and cost effective PSU I decided on the Antec EA380D. It is certainly quieter than my stock generic PSU, but I've now decided that this is not quiet enough and I want silent! Another model I was debating on was...
