Re: EVGA GTX 460 Fan/Voltage Bios Mod for a quieter GPU

At stock Gigabyte settings, the fans run at 40% minimum (1800 rpm). If I use a 30% setting, it spins at around 1200 rpm.

At 25% and below, i don't think it spins at all. MSI afterburner gives a weird rpm reading of 130819 rpm.
I am not sure what connectors the card sport though, sorry.

Re: EVGA GTX 460 Fan/Voltage Bios Mod for a quieter GPU

Does anyone know of any after-market coolers which are compatabile with the Gigabyte gtx 460 card? Are you kidding? The Windforce is fully able to cool that card: and moreover, do you need more quietness or more cooling power? I'm fully aware of the windforce's cooling prowess. If it could be quiet...

Re: EVGA GTX 460 Fan/Voltage Bios Mod for a quieter GPU

This coil whine doesn't necessarily manifest itself during 3d gaming right? I have yet to get a game (I know, I'm slow) for my desktop. As long as it doesn't whine during gameplay, I guess I can live with it. If it does whine during gameplay, is it a good enough reason to RMA the card? My experienc...

Re: EVGA GTX 460 Fan/Voltage Bios Mod for a quieter GPU

Ran furmark for about 5 minutes, temps were around 72-73 degrees. However, it made this high-pitched whine, which sounded pretty irritating. Is that a sign of a faulty card? [Edit] There is also this interminent buzzing noise coming from my PSU (Seasonic S12-II 620) when I am in Windows 7, surfing ...

Sorry, completely missed that article out.

Another question:  has any one used Noctua's low-noise adaptors with other fan models?

Re: Fractal R3

How many slipstreams are you using in your build and what voltages are you running them at? I am choosing between getting the 800rpm slipstream or the 800rpm s-flexes.

My only worry is that 800rpm fans might not be enough to push air through the Fractal R3 case.

Re: Replacing stock fans for Fractal R3

That sounds like a good setup. With my white R3 though the rear vent was so restrictive to the airflow that a Slip Stream 800 at full speed created quite a bit of noise. Might be the extra thick white paint, but I opted to open up the rearwards top vent and an using two Slip Stream 800's at 5V for ...

Re: EVGA GTX 460 Fan/Voltage Bios Mod for a quieter GPU

Just flashed the bios and set the min speed to 20%. While in 2d mode (is that normal windows 7 surfing the net etc stuff?) the temps is around 43 degrees Celsius. Do you think i need to run furmark just to be sure my mod is working fine?

Re: Conflicting reports for CPU temperatures for Speedfan &

Can I begin my over-clocking adventures or do I need to reseat the cooler? Are the SpeedFan and CPUID temps taken at load? And at which fan speed? I would give a check also with the popular Real Temp 3.60 (or 3.65), usually to be preferred for Intel CPUs. At anyway, if I were you I would however re...

Re: Conflicting reports for CPU temperatures for Speedfan &

There's definitely something wrong with that CPU temperature reading. The CPU will have a generic CPU temperature sensor somewhere and then there will be Digital Thermal Sensors on each core. BIOS CPU temp readings will be from the generic temperature sensor. Since the only significant source of CP...

Conflicting reports for CPU temperatures for Speedfan & Bios

I was using Speedfan to monitor my newly-built PC, and these are the (worrying?) results. (see attached image). http://img543.imageshack.us/i/speedfan.jpg/ Which of the temperatures actually represent the actual CPU temps? In the bios and the coretemp program, the temperatures closely match the Core...

[quote="mkk" Then there are also cheap 5V adapters from Zalman and others that for instance convert one molex to 2 x 5V and 2 x 12V 3pin connectors. [/quote]

Do you have a link to those adapters?

Re: Replacing stock fans for Fractal R3

If you don't need much airflow the Slip Stream 800's can be run at 5V and still start reliably, in contrast to the Nexus Silents. Then there are also cheap 5V adapters from Zalman and others that for instance convert one molex to 2 x 5V and 2 x 12V 3pin connectors. If you want to run a little highe...

Re: EVGA GTX 460 Fan/Voltage Bios Mod for a quieter GPU

Yes, do exactly that. Flashing a bios that is not a backup from your own card will only increase the risk that it won't work. It appears that Gigabyte VGA@Bios does not want me to flash the modified bios. When I try to modifiy the card's bios and re-flash it, it says that the version is the same an...

Re: EVGA GTX 460 Fan/Voltage Bios Mod for a quieter GPU

I was just wondering if the voltage drop would have any stability issues. Anyway, I tried downloading the gigabyte GTX460 bios from the website. The version included there is F3, while I have a F12 version. I don't believe those two are compatible based on the FAQ. Could I just modify the backup bio...

Re: EVGA GTX 460 Fan/Voltage Bios Mod for a quieter GPU

Yes. It's Gigabyte GTX460 OC1, 2 fans. I have no way of testing this myself because I no longer own the Gigabyte card, so I strongly suggest if you test this out yourself to have an extra video card handy should you need to restore your original bios to the Gigabyte card. Hope this helped. What do ...

i'd suggest either the nexus 120 , or the scythe slipstream 800rpm , or 1200rpm versions.. undervolted they should all be very quiet. a lot of those prices look painful lol... probably stick with the nexus. Yea they do look expensive don't they :D. If I do slipstream 800rpm fans, do I need two of t...

Replacing stock fans for Fractal R3

Which fans can I use to replace the stock fans on the Fractal R3? I don't intend to add additional fans (maybe an additional front fan if needed). That is, at most I would have 2 intake fans and out exhaust fan. Any suggestions pple? Oh, and the items I would be getting would be gotten from here. ht...

Re: GTX 460 noise levels

Yup. I have read about modifying the bios and changing a particular value in the bios and changing the voltage using another program. How many people have actually done that? and how safe is it :p? I suppose that would remedy any idle fan noises, but I guess there's no way to lower any noise when th...

GTX 460 noise levels

Hi everyone, Been trolling the silent pc website for a while, and finally decided to post my first message. I am going to collect my new PC tomorrow, and was wondering if anyone knows how silent (or loud) the GTX 460 card is? The card I would be using is the Gigabyte GF GTX460 1G OC. Also which driv...
