Re: Help with a new build, Win 7 Pro, w/1st time use of an S

Hi all....again.... Well, I'm pretty sure I've got all of my hardware issues sorted out... And, I think everyone for their help... I have a software question, now, specifically a Win7 64 question... I want to change the default install location for my programs....the ones that do not give me the opt...

Re: Help with a new build, Win 7 Pro, w/1st time use of an S

Can you tell me if there is a partition size limit with Win7 64? I have a 3TB WD drive that I will use as a backup in my system, and perhaps I'd like to split it in half, partition-wise, unless there might be a performance hit doing so. Thee is a possibility I might put a few programs on the drive. ...

Re: Help with a new build, Win 7 Pro, w/1st time use of an S

OK, so I'm to the point that I dont want to mess with my drive anymore, and I just want to proceed with my fresh, reinstall of Win7 Pro. I've done a bit of research as to the methods of Secure Erase. Ive tried a few of them, and have been unsuccessful at doing what I want to do. For whatever reason,...

Re: Help with a new build, Win 7 Pro, w/1st time use of an S

A further update.... I apologize for my lack of knowledge. This is the 1st time I've ever used SSDs in my system, and as such, I'm full of questions. I appreciate the patience required to answer my questions. I really do. Ive discovered that if I try to use my Samsung Magician software to do a secur...

Re: Help with a new build, Win 7 Pro, w/1st time use of an S

I have a couple of further questions regarding secure erase vs. formatting, in regards to a SSD I will have two SSDs in my system once I've completed my install. Both are Samsung SSDs, one an EVO 500gb, the other a Pro 256. I've played around a bit, placing files on each, along with MoBo drivers, et...

Re: Help with a new build, Win 7 Pro, w/1st time use of an S

So, I got my computer built and more or less tested and checked. Hardware all seems ok The problem is that likely messed up my Win 7 install on my SSD, so.. I want to completely wipe my drive, and begin again. If I just re install Windows, does it truly wipe my drive clean, or does it just "repair" ...

Any ideas why the drives would just "disappear" like that?

Seems really unusual

Re: Help with a new build, Win 7 Pro, w/1st time use of an S

Hi all.. My build is nearly complete. I ended up choosing an Antec P100 case. Built and running, its very quiet... Not completely bulletproof, but well made for the money, and slightly more spacious than my previous case. It would have been a significant challenge to sneak my components into the sma...

Re: Help with a new build, Win 7 Pro, w/1st time use of an S

So, I did a "trial" install, with my equipment as indicated, built in an older case I had. I did my Win7 64 install... Very quick install, and computer booted with no trouble. My BOIS on my Gigabyte MoBo discovered my Samsung SSD, and it was already configured properly to AHCI. CPU discovered, memor...

Re: Help with a new build, Win 7 Pro, w/1st time use of an S

On the Gigabyte website, there appears to me a AMD SATA AHCI driver, that is not a RAID driver, as near as I can tell. The wording on the site indicates it as a pre install driver, kind of like a RAID driver.... Is this necessary, or do I just change my settings in BIOS, prior to install? Where in t...

Anyone with personal experience with Nexus Prominent cases??

Hi all, I saw a article somewhere about the Nexus Prominent cases. I don't even know if you can buy one anywhere anymore.... Does anyone have any experience with them at all, or has anyone owned one? I'm looking for a silent, somewhat medium case for my new built. Maybe something slightly larger tha...

Re: I need a bit of Power Supply advice for a new build

Bought a vid card, after a bit of research, etc.

MSI GAMING N750Ti TF 2GD5/OC GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB 128-Bit GDDR5 HDCP Ready Video Card

A bit of overkill, perhaps, but rated and reviewed well, and silent as well as very power efficient.

Re: I need a bit of Power Supply advice for a new build

I went for the Platinum.

It even had an additional 15 dollar rebate in addition. Not a bad deal.

Now down to the vid card and case

Re: I need a bit of Power Supply advice for a new build

Has anyone compared the X650 to the SS-660XP Platinum? It's probably down to these two, with the 660 being only 10 bucks more. They are both highly rated, highly reviewed, and there doesn't appear to be any downside either way. They will be both silent in my build, I think. Plenty of headroom, plent...

Re: I need a bit of Power Supply advice for a new build

My new system will have a Red 3TB WD drive, that I had intended to use for storage and archiving, etc. Possible a few program installs. I'm going to use my EVO 500 GB drive for my windows 7 install, and the 256 Pro for my Lightroom/Photoshop install. Neither of which I've done yet. I got a good deal...

Re: I need a bit of Power Supply advice for a new build

I do not push my system really hard, ever, but I want the headroom, in case I do. I'm also trying to future-proof my system, a bit, even if it's only for 6 months to a year. :) I have an original Solo case, and have zero problems with fan noise from my X650. I really like the size of the Solo. I don...

Re: I need a bit of Power Supply advice for a new build

Thank you for your honest opinion. All of my components are bought at this point, except the case, PS, and video card. I understand the concern about heatsink clearance and that cooler, but I have used it before, with other GSkill memory, and had surprisingly plenty of room. There is a fair amount o...

Re: I need a bit of Power Supply advice for a new build

The AMD, primarily due to price and cost benefit. I've used them forever, and they have served the purpose well enough of my needs. The C14 because it's and excellent, silent cooler I have experience with, and, as the board I've chosen tends to run a bit warm, it can't hurt I will run a single graph...

I need a bit of Power Supply advice for a new build

Hello all, I'm nearly done assembling components for a new system I'm building, but I'm a bit hung up on a power supply. I fear my chosen components are a bit more power hungry than the system I built 5 yrs ago. Then, I bought a SEASONIC X650 GOLD 650W PS, and it has performed flawlessly. I am not a...

Help with matching front and rear case fans

Hi all, I'm new to this forum, but have been a long time visitor to SPCR. I apologize if this question has been posted elsewhere before. If so, I'd appreciate a redirect to that info if available. Is it ultra critical to "match" your front and rear fan CFM, all other things being equal? I have an An...
