Re: Fixing Ivy Bridge high CPU temps: IHS removal video
Ok I've been running this for a few months, it's roughly half a degree higher than when I first applied the paste, which is well within margin of error. Ambient temps are the same.

Re: Fixing Ivy Bridge high CPU temps: IHS removal video
Btw you said all your good thermals were already used, what do you consider the best? indiglo? Shin Itsu? I use to have some shin-etsu and CL liquid metal ultra last year, but used all that up. CL only gives very little of the liquid metal in the syringe, only about 0.15g (not even a gram!). I was ...

Re: Fixing Ivy Bridge high CPU temps: IHS removal video
Thank you for doing the video and sharing it! It's very generous of you to put such a big effort and time into showing how to fix the Ivy Bridge IHS. I'm amazed by the difference you have recorded, 98 degrees is an extreme temperature at 4 GHz. Do you know if this would also make a difference on Sa...

Re: Fixing Ivy Bridge high CPU temps: IHS removal video
It seemed difficult to keep the IHS in place while you were pressing down on the lever. Was it secure when you were done? I wouldn't say it's too difficult, but does take a pretty sturdy hand. I was doing it backwards so the webcam could face it, and also I was putting pressure down on it while try...

Fixing Ivy Bridge high CPU temps: IHS removal video
Hi guys, I just removed the IHS off my IB processor and thought I'd share this "tutorial" video and results. I got a huge 40°C lower on one of the cores . If I average temps from all cores before and after the mod, then it's 79.25°C before IHS removal, and 59°C after IHS removal. That's still 20°C d...

Re: DH77EB + I5-3750k Combination Low Power
Bummer, it's a shame that intel boards never has any CPU voltage adjustments. Only the high end intel boards that were designed specifically for overclocking has CPU voltage, but none other. I just don't understand how the built the board for all other voltage adjustments except for the CPU. This wo...

Passively cooled HD5770 vs HD7750
I'm in a pickle between these two cards. I bought this Gigabyte HD5770 Silent Cell a year ago for $180 and finally will get a chance to use it. Yes I know, that's way overpriced but I was pretty desperate as it was the most powerful card that was passively cooled at the time, and it was being discon...

Instead of making a new thread, I'll just post the update on here. These crucial M4's has been dropping in price a lot recently. I think this is the lowest I've seen so far at $100 shipped, and shave off another $5 if you're a new customer (aka make a new email :p)

Re: New Ivy Bridge processors released today!
However, Sandy Bridge still wins in the max overclocking department at lower temperatures. No it doesn't. I was at an Ivy Bridge launch event yesterday which included demonstrations of overclocking up to 5Ghz. This was with an i7-3770K, MSI Z77A GD65 motherboard and Dark Rock Pro cooler (think Noct...

New Ivy Bridge processors released today!
IB will get released in the morning for many stores. I'll be grabbing one for myself :D. Based on what I've read so far, these new IB will be great for lower power consumption and heat at modest overclocks, which is good for us here. However, Sandy Bridge still wins in the max overclocking departmen...

It's been a while, but I forgot to update: I switched out the gigabyte H67N-USB3 with a ECS H67H2-I around November because it can hold a mSATA SSD on the motherboard. The mSATA SSD is a 80gb intel 310 SSD. Pics will come later.

WFD, great build and helpful pics. I wonder if there is any cooler similar and able to avoid putting pressure on the DIMM slots? this is the largest cooler for this board and case. any other cooler will be smaller, or too big to fit. although the heatpipes do touch the memory stick, there is no rea...

nice! that's almost going to be my exact setup with the HD5770 silent cell, CPU, motherboard, and fan. except i'll be using the 800rpm variant and a fractal design mini case instead of the TJ08. how are the temps for the GPU and CPU? i think you might not even need that fan on the hr-02 since it's r...

Re: passive cpu cooler other option
thermalright HR-02 is a good choice for your current setup as well as future upgrades. even though some people say it's a "passive" cooler, it's more like semi-passive because the offset design of it allows it to be very close to your case fans. so although you don't have to use a dedicated fan for ...

Re: Mini ITX Low Power Build
1) PWM fans I though it would change with temps, in my testing it never did with prime95, both PWM stayed with the same rpm, maybe 40C is to low to kick more rpm from the mobo or maybe PWM fans are not meant to by dynamically controlled by the MOBO but just to be set without a fan controller. Just ...

great power consumption numbers, especially idle. do you think a lian li PC-Q11 would be more suitable? it's basically the same as the Q08, but not as long or thick. from the pics, it doesn't look like you need the case's length or thickness because there's still a lot of extra space. and with a sho...
