Re: Lian Li PC-A04, Quiet low voltage build for transcoding
I've been hearing some annoying bearing chatter from the front fans. Gave me an excuse to order some Thermalright TR-FDB-1300 fans. They have the potential to deliver significantly more cfms at near the same max rpm as the original Lian Li fans, but they have also been tested to run quietly at relat...

How do motherboards control case fans (electrical question)?
Does anyone know what is the method(s) used by motherboards that allow BIOS or software control of fans attached to a motherboard fan header? I'm excluding PWM fan headers in this question, as PWM control is relatively straightforward to me. I assume that the motherboard is reducing the voltage outp...

Re: USB 3 ports dangling out at front of Solo
Hi sinLog. Wondering if you've made your decision already? If you're still considering the PC-A04 I just completed a quiet build with that case. While it's definitely possible to make the case quiet with good component selection, I think that silent may be out of the question. The aluminum just pick...

The Z68 boards I've found have been significantly more expensive than equivalents with H67. Maybe they're too new here... Edit: what's wrong with the x16 PCIe slot on the DH67GD? Oops, didn't mean to imply that you couldn't add a separate video card to the H67 board; I was referring to the discrete...

Re: How are Gelid Fans in general?
I have the Gelid Tranquillo cooler which comes with a PWM version of their 12cm fan. I'm quite pleased with the Gelid build quality for the price. Certainly you can pay more and get better and quieter performance, but I think they are one of the best for the price. Have you seen this review comparin...

Looks like some great components that you have chosen. Your usage and priorities are pretty much in line with mine. I don't have the experience to comment on the parts that you have a direct question on, but I was wondering about your choice of CPU and motherboard. First, unless it's very important ...

Lian Li PC-A04, Quiet low voltage build for transcoding
I recently completed a build using the Lian Li PC-A04. The intended purpose is video editing and transcoding of AVCHD home movies, so I wanted a decently high powered system, but without compromising much on quietness, efficiency, and overall “bang for the buck.” Build Specs: Lian Li PC-A04 Intel Co...
