Re: 4U chassis, large tower CPU cooler doesn't fit! Help cho
Interesting.. My motherboard is a Tyan S5510 which has 5x4pin connectors, as well as 4x8 pin connectors (though apparently you can't mix and match). Can't seem to find anything in the manual or google on weather or not I can control the RPM of 3 pin fans with this board. It seems that most of the No...

Re: 4U chassis, large tower CPU cooler doesn't fit! Help cho
Thanks for the posts! @boost Well, it has 24 bays, though I'm not putting that many drives in there yet :P. I've 6 at the moment, Hitachi Deskstar 5k3000's which are low spinning and very quiet. I have a Norco 4224 case, which is basically a cheap 4U, 24-bay hdd chassis. You can find more details about it here http://www.norcotek.com/item_detail.php?categoryid=1&modelno=rpc-4224 . So I've selected all my internal components for my server build. The last thing to select now is the heatsink+C...

Re: Intel Xeon E3 12x0 vs E3 12x5, max TDP question
Cool. Thanks for that
I decided to go down the E3-1260L route anyway, as it's TDP is around 45watt which is quite low, and still provides way more power than what I need it for!

Re: E3 family xeons, anyone? Low power server..
Thought I might share my plans with you all. So I have a Norco 4224 chassis already, and a Tyan Micro ATX S5510GM3NR motherboard (reviewed here): http://www.servethehome.com/tyan-s5510-s5510gm3nr-matx-sandy-bridge-xeon-lga1155-c204-motherboard-review/ I have an Intel E3 1260L on the way... Someone h...

Intel Xeon E3 12x0 vs E3 12x5, max TDP question
Hi all, I'm trying to decide on which CPU I should buy out of the above two. Intel E3 1230: http://ark.intel.com/products/52271 Intel E3 1235: http://ark.intel.com/products/52272 The E3 1230 does not have on-die video, wehere as the the E3 1235 does have on-die video (Intel HD Graphics P3000). The E...
