Re: Large HTPC case - but will a fanless CPU cooler fit?
I don't think that monitors will replace TV's for everyone. But, if you are happy with, say, a 27" TV (sorry to use the silly " (inches) as a measurement) and you want a DVD or Blu-ray player then you might as well not bother buying a TV because if you bought an entertainment centre like the MC001 t...

Re: Large HTPC case - but will a fanless CPU cooler fit?
Vicotnic, thanks for your reply. I have no experience with regard to which part of a TV tuner card gets hot, or if indeed it does get hot. That is why I originally thought the Streacom FC10 with its incorporated heat pipe CPU cooler would have been OK. My trouble is that I am a total beginner and ha...

Large HTPC case - but will a fanless CPU cooler fit?
Thanks Vicotnik and everybody else. Well, I came to SPCR thinking I could enjoy myself building a fan free HTPC with a sound card and a TV tuner card - and I have been told that if I do this then the TV card will heat up the inside and cause problems, despite the fact that it will not be used for ga...

Re: Large HTPC case - but will a fanless CPU cooler fit?
hauppauge.co.uk show external DVB-T and DVB-S cards http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/data_hvr950q.html but I would prefer to build a neat self contained unit with the cards inside. arctic.ac have built a super slim HTPC (the MC001) with built-in DVB-T card http://www.arctic.ac/en/p/living/ente...

Large HTPC case - but will a fanless CPU cooler fit?
Construction of a silent desktop size entertainment centre for siting on a shelf Given that it is not sensible to fit a TV tuner card and a sound card into the Streacom FC10 due to the inside of the FC10 not having a case fan (see thread titled "Recipe for HTPC . . . . ): How about using the large ...

Re: Recipe for HTPC or Desktop case, fan free, i3, 2 or 3 ca
. . as post. . . . Thanks very much for your help Mike. I had hoped to be able to put a sound card and a TV tuner inside the F10 fan free case - but as that is now 3 people all saying in effect that they wouldn't risk it and nobody has said they have done it and it worked, or that they are sure it ...

Re: Recipe for HTPC or Desktop case, fan free, i3, 2 or 3 ca
So, if i click on your Artic link and then click on "technical data" then i see . . . . . TV Tuner (optional) DVB-T or ATSC You do not seem to want a discussion, you want someone to tell you what you want to hear. Thank you for your comments, you are quite right, the 'Technical Data' section states...

Pappnaas wrote: The TV-Tuner section from Arctic reads "optional: DVB-T or ATSC" So i assume they use mini-pci Tuners or even USB models. Where exactly would you put a full size pci (-e) card into this one? The Arctic website (see link above) does not read "optional: ..." it reads: "with an integra...

Recipe for HTPC or Desktop case, fan free, i3 with 2 or 3 ca
Those TV-Cards get really hot while in use. I doubt you can make it work with multiple cards in a fanless case. They'll probably die of being cooked very very slow. especially if confined inside a media cabinet with amp/receiver/sat and/or cable box. Thank you pappnaas and xan-user. If you are corr...

Recipe needed: HTPC or Desktop case, fan free, i3 with 3 car
The Streacom FC10 desktop case would fit OK. It doesn't have a front USB but looks like I would be able to get 2 or 3 cards in it. I really could do with a bit of help though as I am new to this. Any ideas for a shopping list for the main components from someone who knows what they are doing would b...

Thanks very much (a bit late) to Boost, otherwise not much help/advice on currently available hard drives. Or maybe I worded my post badly.

Re: Recommended HDD: Approx max cost £100 / $150 (min 500GB)
Take a look at the recommended hard drive list . From personal experience I can tell you that a 7K RPM 3.5" drive is out of the question. The Samsung F4 is at the top of the list for 3.5" drives. I have a 2TB model. It is very quiet in idle, but I can hear seeks. Vibration is listed as an 8 out of ...

Recommended HDD: Approx max cost £100 / $150 (min 500GB)
Recommendation for HDD: Approx max cost £100 (~$150) and minimum size of 500GB I have searched this site and been unable to find this info. There is only going to be one HDD in my PC for a while so it will have 3 partitions: OS, Data and Image Files. It absolutely must be as quiet as possible. I ha...
