Re: Anyone volt modded a PWM fan?
Yeah. I was looking at zener diodes but i think the power dissipation might be a bit high for them, can't find any current stats for the fans on the EVGA FTW edition 750ti I think 3 rectifier diodes in series for ~2.1v drop should do it failing that, a linear voltage regulator.. got the bits for the...

Re: Anyone volt modded a PWM fan?
i need the displayport the evgas have, even the SC version has noise complaints was just trying to find out if someone has figured out the pinout of the fan header on a modern vga card.. not having anything more recent than a GeForce4 myself, i can't test it.. if it's the same as motherboard headers...

Anyone volt modded a PWM fan?
Sounds silly i know but it would be useful for people with limited PWM range or fixed pwm numbers on graphics cards for idle - like the EVGA GTX750ti i'm looking at is restricted to 42 or 43% in its lowest speed It's my understanding of PWM that it works by switching the supply voltage on and off, v...

Re: Can i keep a GTX 760ti cool in an Antec NSK3480?
resolution is just 1080 HD, and yes, my multi monitor setup is one screen for games/video, the others for browsing, stats, task manager etc - 3 utterly different monitors, two quite old I've looked into the gameplay of the maxwell GTX750ti and that will do me fine i think. A major part of the proble...

Re: Can i keep a GTX 760ti cool in an Antec NSK3480?
Now we are starting to get somewhere(information is getting into my rock head). I did look at the 750ti because of its TDP but discounted it because it seemed to be far lower performance than R9 270 and the 760ti whilst not really costing that much less. The TDP makes it a real contender.. and a sho...

Re: Can i keep a GTX 760ti cool in an Antec NSK3480?
I don't know enough about graphics to be able to distinguish between generations like that.. or, more importantly, judge the impact of such things. Am moving back into pc gaming after many years on consoles. What i'm doing is comparing performance figures from reviews of cards i can afford, then loo...

Can i keep a GTX 760ti cool in an Antec NSK3480?
As titled, i finally got round to where i'll be looking at buying the graphics card for my Antec NSK3480 build. Other important specs are as follows: I5 3570k @ stock (for now) noctua d14 with the PWM fans. The 140mm one is on the HS, the 120mm one is my rear case fan No hard drives in the main cham...

Re: Mounting Harddrives at odd angles
ok i read the whole thread... and in a way, wish i hadn't lol Could be because it's 5am and i'm hungry and lacking my coffee but this thread has made me uncertain on something i was fine with before.. Think of a table, or bench surface. Can i mount a hard drive on its side, on that surface? ie, so i...

Re: Western Digital 5TB drives
can't get google translate to translate it to english for me - says the page is invalid - but, i can see the chart.. Thanks man, you just solved a real dilemma and thing i've been really heavily concerned about for me, IE the availability of the allegedly more rugged red drives in 4-5tb sizes. Hard ...

Yes, I have the case, but i haven't done any chopping or mods yet save swapping the case sides round and offering up the hard drive brackets i have - i'm waiting till i get the motherboard and heatsink because that will give me final positions for everything if my numbers are right 10.75" is 273mm a...

Re: Druneau's NSK3480 i5/HR-02 Build
man the amount of people using jigsaws, files, nibblers.. have none of you heard of the mighty dremel? it does make chopping cases really easy although you have to be careful - the brown fibrous cutting wheels are quite fragile and the diamond coated carbide wheels are quite harsh.. really indispens...

Re: Druneau's NSK3480 i5/HR-02 Build
I typically over-build to extend the date of obsolescence. The NSK3480 is not a naturally quiet case design for 2010-to-2014 power desires for a general purpose computer. We are definitely pushing logistical requirements of current PSUs and optical drives. Cabling between the two deforms the rear w...

Those are some nice temps.. except the GPU thanks for the effort on my behalf
Note Druneau's sig now says HD7970.. interesting considering the cost of say a his hd7950 with the rear exhaust type cooler, especially for my build..

Re: has anyone fitted a noctua NH-D14 in an NSK-3480?
based on your advice.. i'm overkilling it even more  Noctua NH-D14 SE2011 version comes with PWM fans, and the mounting kit for socket 1155 is pocket change.. really worth it to get PWM imo as my motherboard doesn't play nicely with 3 pin fans (maximus v gene). I don't expect to need the 120mm ...

Re: Druneau's NSK3480 i5/HR-02 Build
hbm, do you have actual temperature readings for your 5870? I notice druneau's temperature graph disappeared. The 5870 is lots hotter than the 7870 i want to fit but i'm trying to gauge just what i can fit in my 3480 when it is modified in this way plus a few little creations of my own

Re: calling people with large HSF in NSK3480 (+ GPU ?s)
Nice one! that answered my question :D i'm going for the D14 anyway  but the socket 2011 version, which does come with PWM fans.. I'll be buying the socket 1155 mounting kit for it (5.99) which should make it fit my maximus v gene - i just found out you could buy the mounting kit today Just sav...

calling people with HR-02/large HSF in NSK3480
This is particularly about the Antec NSK-3480 case. I notice several people on these boards using Thermalright's HR-02 (macho?) heatsink in the NSK3480.. I've based a lot of my heatsink research on this. Are you using the rev.A or B version of the cooler? it's pretty important because the 'macho 120...

Re: Does SPCR seem way too obsessive compulsive about noise?
NO. no, no, nonono.. etc If i can wade in with my 2p and my size 12s, I think it's a modifier/tweaker thing. I've been modifying/tweaking things up to alter something about them for 20 years, and I have come to the conclusion that there are two types of people in this world: those who are happy with...

Sorry to resurrect a necrothread but this build is very pertinent to what I am trying to do, and i do not see many 3480 builds with powerful GPUs in.
edit: never mind.. duh at me for not reading enough of your post Nice build anyway sah hoping mine will be as sweet

Re: has anyone fitted a noctua NH-D14 in an NSK-3480?
I did consider the U12P SE2 and even the 92mm version but really if i remove the 120mm fan from the D14 it doesn't seem any bigger in any way that matters (of course, it is bigger but if it actually fits, why not?) The D14 is pocket change more expensive than the U12P here and I really like the idea...

has anyone fitted a noctua NH-D14 in an NSK-3480?
Hi all, new to posting here but lurked looking at a few 3480 builds for a few weeks, inspired by some of the nice builds here to finally ditch my ancient (originally AT with the punch out backplate to make it ATX, it had a 486 in it when i got it) old full tower and go micro atx. Question is as titl...
