Happy to report back that I went ahead and bought the Seasonic X650 and am totally happy with it. I don't hear any coil whine, either because it's not there or because my ears simply aren't sensitive enough. Either way, I can't hear the power supply.

I can't see a reason to go fanless on the PSU while using a HDD.
