Re: Quiet ATX Gamer, R5 Version
Hey, This is my first time posting and I was just wondering what your opinions were on using noctua fans in this build. Also how did you decide on the R5 rather than the NZXT H440. Thanks I use Noctua fans in this build (3 x A14 PWMs using a phobya pwm splitter pcb) and achieve broadly similar resu...

Re: Quiet ATX Gamer, R5 Version
After many hiccoughs, i've finally got my take on this build. It took 4 exchanges of GTX 970s (3 strix and the 1 msi version i have now) to get one with little-to-no coil whine and a replacement EVGA G2 850w PSU to eliminate a loud electrical buzz, but i'm basically there! 3 Noctua AF-14 PWMs at 400...

Afraid not i'm in Leamington Spa - guessing you'd want to view beforehand? Can video them individually working or something if that'd help.

For Sale (UK) 6 x Noiseblocker M12-S1
Can't seem to shift these on ebay - recently kitted out my define r5 with noctua a14s so i've no use for these anymore. Pulled right out of my old H440 system - come with all the grommets but no boxes i'm afraid.
£55 posted i think is reasonable
Thanks,

Re: MSI Gaming 5 Z97 PWM control of CPU FAN 2?
Noctua A14 PWM arrived today - works fine on CPU_FAN2 - can drop it all the way down to 300rpm from 1500rpm. Something must be up with the viper fan / it doesn't play nice with my motherboard as my friend insists he used PWM to control it on his asus board.
Oh well!

MSI Gaming 5 Z97 PWM control of CPU FAN 2?
Just borrowed a PWM Akasa viper 140mm fan to put onto my 2nd cpu fan header on this motherboard and it runs at 100%, displays 0rpm and I can't change the speed either in the bios or command center. I can't remember, but i've a funny feeling this happened with some silent wings 2 that were pwm too. I...

Re: Asus GTX970 STRIX
I've been inspired by the recent silent ATX gamer define r5 edition article to experiment with fan curves. Am i to assume if i follow similar settings (obviously i will tailor it for my own system's cooling capabilities) i.e. try not to go over 85C then a GTX 970 is just as safe as a GTX 980 at thos...

Re: Silently Air Cooling an H440 effectively: trying and fai
Yeah i've accepted that Furmark + Prime95 together is an insane amount of stress to put on a system that will never reach that, so I'm happy with 76 C for the two really, in real life gaming temps remain fine and in individual stressing its fine too, so that'll do. Fans arrived; installed them all. ...

Will do. Fingers crossed! They should be here at some point tomorrow. For reference: Baseline Temps w/Stock Fans @ 800rpm, 950rpm for rear (won't slow down for some reason) CPU w/ Prime95 (Small FFTs) for 30 Minutes. 66C max GPU w/ Furmark for 30 Minutes 78C max CPU + GPU w/ Prime 95 + Furmark Toget...

Re: Silently Air Cooling an H440 effectively: trying and fai
Okay, after careful consideration of the advice given by everyone and re-reading the relevant SPCR articles, i've gone ahead and ordered 5 of the Noiseblockers instead of six (being mindful of diminishing returns) and 1 Phanteks exhaust (was tempted by the PK2 or the Red Vortex, but stuck to my gut ...

Re: Silently Air Cooling an H440 effectively: trying and fai
Remember not always more is better, same applies to fans, upon certain point there are diminishing returns into the amount of air you are entering is not giving you equal proportion to the cooling you get, but for us is particularly important as noise comes from moving parts, and now a days with ss...

Re: Phanteks 'Successor' to the PH-F140HP; the PH-F140SP
Okay so after a bit more research I've answered my own question really. This isn't a successor, it is an addition to their fan range along with the 140XP. In increasing order of static pressure: HP-SP-XP, so I have been told. The HP has 120mm mounts whilst the SP has 140mm mounts and slightly differ...

Re: Silently Air Cooling an H440 effectively: trying and fai
Well, you might give a look into SPCR articles looking for the better performing fans at about that speed (usually corresponding to the 12-14dB(A) range), and then look among the better sounding one among those. My personal, not-so-educated bet, it's that something like a Prolimatech Blue Vortex (o...

Re: Asus mobo, fans spinning up on high cpu usage!
Why are your CPU fans not plugged into your cpu header and your 200mm not in a system fan header? Switch them around and see what happens; is the 200mm even PWM to be controlled properly by the CPU header?

Re: Silently Air Cooling an H440 effectively: trying and fai
They're NZXT FN V2s all running at 100% because it doesn't really seem worth undervolting the stock fans imo when I can get better quality stuff. So 1200RPM (+/- 15%) all the time. The 140 will be 1000RPM (+/- 15%) all the time. Well, broadly speaking you can't compare 1000/1200rpm fans (NZXT) with...

Re: Silently Air Cooling an H440 effectively: trying and fai
I want to get quieter fans without sacrificing too much cooling performance from the status quo. ...snipped out... For reference, stock temps are 35C idle, 65C load / prime or 61-62 with Intel Extreme Tuning Utility. GPU never goes above 78. Which are your average current fan speeds? All of them pl...

Re: Silently Air Cooling an H440 effectively: trying and fai
Until you provide more airflow by opening up the case, more fans probably won't help. I bet you'd get the same temp results with just 2 decent 140's in front and 1 in back. Analogy: no matter how hard you suck, how much air can you pull through a small straw? I appreciate that, though the fact rema...

Re: Silently Air Cooling an H440 effectively: trying and fai
Phantek exhaust + M12-S1 for the other fan slots seems like a good idea at the moment, but I'm here to be told otherwise! The M12-S2 would seem a more sensible choice, over the S1 (refer to the relevant SPCR article ). can i simply add cfm ratings to one another to calculate total airflow so that I...

Re: Silently Air Cooling an H440 effectively: trying and fai
I've taken all the hard drive bays out which I don't need and it's cabled tidied quite meticulously; I recall it did help a couple of degrees or so when I did it properly.
I'm guessing I need static pressure fans because of the restricted vents?

Welcome to SPCR. Just to make sure I have this correct Sorry, I didn't make myself entirely clear, I wrote this post on the way to work in a bit of a grump because I'd traded my fans for (what i view to be) worse ones! Now I have a bit more time i'll clear things up. I should note I am now running ...

Silently Air Cooling an H440 effectively: trying and failing
*Edited to clear up info* I've been having a bit of difficulty effectively cooling the H440 whilst maintaining peacefulness. Stock temps are fine, but loud. Aerocool dead silence temps were also fine; but whilst the fans were quiet, these produced a lot of annoying clicking, vibrations etc even wit...
