Re: changing fan on GTX 1050?
What is Freeze Tech? "Freeze" is Zotac's brand name for the semi-passive "fan-stop" feature where the GFX card will turn off its fans when under a certain temperature. It comes as standard on "premium" cards like GTX 1060's and up and dual-fan "AMP's" in general. However, all the EVGA, PNY, Inno3D,...

Re: changing fan on GTX 1050?
Installed Gigabyte D5 1050 and it is nearly silent at 30% 920 rpm. looked like 4 wires to fan and also looks like i can set lower than 30% if needed. That's great news Mingus. Could you please confirm that you can manually set 20-29% fan speeds in MSI Afterburner? And what does the fan sound like b...

Re: changing fan on GTX 1050?
Nearly all gaming cards should allow for fan profile adjustment...if they don't we need to make a list of "don't buy this frigging card". Return it if you can. The MSI Gaming would be a better choice. It's longer but still only 9" and dual slot. Passive at lower loads. This is the same problem I me...

Re: GTX 1050 Ti review compilation thread
There's of course this if Arctic Cooling confirm compatibility with 1050. Not exactly a compact solution but should fit a bunch of small sub-20L cases. If that's the Accelero Mono, it takes up 3 slots rather than 2 (and ends up 90% of the price of a GTX 1060). To be honest even though I don't need ...

Re: GTX 1050 Ti review compilation thread
TweakPC (german) . HardwareLuxx (german, along with EVGA SC) Thanks for the links, quest_for_silence. Unfortunately the reviews contradict each other again. One says the Zotac is "whisper quiet" at 37db (their apparent noise floor), and the other shows it has a 3200rpm fan that can't physically run...

Re: GTX 1050 Ti review compilation thread
You certainly have a point, Steve, as to why they send only high-end stuff and I can understand the economics behind it. On the flip-side, I know people who are giving up reading tech sites altogether when it's a case of 20x sites all measuring exactly the same irrelevancies for only 1x single produ...

Re: GTX 1050 Ti review compilation thread
If this are similar to what the GTX750Ti were, it shouldnt matter much, my 750Ti never went over 70C no matter the load, and usually it hang below 65C on long time gaming, i honestly never could hear the MSI GTX750Ti in my HTPC even with madvr and lav filters, even though it was underpowered for it...

Re: GTX 1050 Ti review compilation thread
So which is the quietest single-fan 1050Ti? Are there any decent acoustic focussed reviews that don't involve 30-40db noise floor tests and aren't obsessed with only reviewing the dual-fan MSI Gaming versions? Any reviews which spell out exactly what the min fan % / rpm is permitted in MSI Afterburn...

Re: 2TB internal drive: 2.5" or 3.5"?
OK, just an update. Samsung M9T turned up today. Totally silent both idle & seek. Temps 27c idle, 30c heavy load (the HDD not the CPU). :P I thought it would run warmer than that with 3x platters squeezed into 9.5mm. That's in a Micro-ATX Sharkoon MA-M1000 case with 1x 120mm CPU fan + 1x 120 exhaust...

Re: 2TB internal drive: 2.5" or 3.5"?
Thanks for your replies guys. I think what's driving me round in circles is the contradictory reviews. Eg, most WD Red reviews are from around launch time and you see a plethora of positive comments like : "Red's are even quieter than green's", "completely quiet, no vibration", etc. But now in 2015,...

Re: 2TB internal drive: 2.5" or 3.5"?
Is there any noticeable difference in speed between 2TB M9T and 3TB WD Red? And do any of your three M9T's make that random "beep" sound several people have commented on? Thanks.

2TB internal drive: 2.5" or 3.5"?
I need a 2TB internal drive for (non RAID) mostly music / video / secondary game storage (I have a 512GB SSD as primary) but just can't decide what to do:- - 2.5" Samsung M9T (3x 667GB platters), or - 3.5" WD Red/Green/Blue (2x 1TB platters) Now the latter is cheaper for same capacity (or 3TB for al...

Re: Asus GeForce GTX 960 Strix OC Edition
However, you can effectively undervolt, in a roundabout way, if you overclock the card (remember, the voltages don't change when you do this) and then use miserly settings in your OC software for either the temperature or power target. For example, in the article, the card runs at 1367MHz with the ...

Re: Asus GeForce GTX 960 Strix OC Edition
Thanks for this review. Can you undervolt this board? On page 5, the voltage control in Asus GPU Tweak appears to be both greyed out and already at minimum at 0 offset? Does it work with other software like Sapphire Trixx? I have an old Asus 7790 that couldn't be tweaked with Asus software but could...
