HDPlex H3 V2 Review

================================================================================ Intro. Hi, My name is Andrei, I'm a pianist and overall technologies enthusiast. You can check what I do here: http://www.youtube.com/user/pianopictures It was time for me to upgrade the PC so I decided to try to go ful...

...and also far below 65W at full turbo synthetic load. Slightly OT, but I'd love to see that data. So far everything I've read shows that even a strait 8400 will, if allowed , continuously draw well over 100Watts during synthetic benchmarks (see Tom's review , specifically the Prime95 with AVX ena...

Re: The idiocy of Intel's T desktop processors

I think adding this "T" is a clever marketing decision. Otherwise they'll be just entry level, inexpensive, low demand items. Marketing them as T-graded make them look like something special, purposely engineered for the specific needs, rising their value for some niche markets (fanless PCs). That i...

Re: The idiocy of Intel's T desktop processors

I really wonder what am I missing. I'm looking at this: http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-8400-vs-Intel-Core-i5-8400T/3939vsm475176 i5 8400 vs. i5 8400T. To me it looks just like two 6-core processors, one of them is much slower. What really surprises me is that the slower one is mo...

Re: The idiocy of Intel's T desktop processors

I totally agree that Intel's T marked processors is something confusing, to say the least. I would understand if they'll have, say, a normal i5 8400 and then an i5 8400T that will have exactly the same frequencies and all other specs except being able to run on a lower wattage, for a somewhat higher...

@@Vicotnik, CA_Steve

Ok, agree. I should just stop worrying.

At worst there are 35W T processors to be used.

HDPlex cases, adding vent holes to the bottom plane

I'm waiting for the HDPlex H3 to be delivered. Meanwhile I'm thinking about modding it by adding some more, and I mean seriously more ventilation holes to the bottom plane. By more I mean I'd like to cut a big rectangular one under the motherboard, and some more, maybe round ones, maybe randomly, ab...

Re: Z370 chipset, processor and motherboard choice

Ordered. HDPlex H3 V2, i5 8400 (65W TDP), ASROCK Z370M-ITX/AC. Will take a while to be delivered. Fingers crossed. Will make a review.

Re: Z370 chipset, processor and motherboard choice

Ok, I see. Head spinning... Thank you very much for advice. No doubt you have more experience than me in this things. Regarding the new chipsets, either way I was still thinking about getting the ASROCK Z370M-ITX/AC. Will be able to check the DPC latency only after getting it anyways. (Googled some ...

Re: Z370 chipset, processor and motherboard choice

Decided to wait for i5 8500T or i7 8700T to be used with HDPlex H3 V2. There will also be some more mITX boards with H370/B360 chipsets to check soon.

Re: Streacom FC8 Alpha Passive, anyone?

Thank you very much for replying.

Yes, I was also thinking about i5 65W. I have a bit of concerns about that I 'may' be video streaming from this PC (non gaming of course). Anyways, there is always an option to put some fan(s) ontop of this passive case, I think, just as a backup plan.

Re: Streacom FC8 Alpha Passive, anyone?

Yes, thank you. Yes, I seem to like the HDPlex H3 more than the Streacom FC8. The reasons are: 1) Construction. The cooling ribs on 2 sides vs. 1 side for FC8, heatpipes go to both sides, looks more effective to me. 2) HDPlex do a worldwide delivery, with Streacom it is more complicated to get it to...

Re: Streacom FC8 Alpha Passive, anyone?

Thank you. Unfortunately I was not able to find any good charts showing the CPU/Chipset temperatures for the FC8 under CPU "torture" tests. Because although in reality a PC is nearly 95% of the time is idle, I still don't want to fry it during the rest of 5% cases. I would like to go for mITX format...

Streacom FC8 Alpha Passive, anyone?

Hello, I'm thinking about getting the Streacom FC8 Alpha case with their 160W Nano Psu. I want it to be 100% passive/silent. Anyone have any experience, does it works, what is the real world usage, temperatures? Can it realistically be used not as a HTPC but as a main working PC? I'm not planning to...

Re: Seasonic power supplies (coil whine)

Just got Seasonic Fanless 400W Platinum. So my report. I live in an apartment, so it is not an anechoic chamber ever, although it is not noisy around either. I was testing it for a couple of days for now. Previously a had a rather quiet PC with more or less quiet components, but still clearly audibl...

Re: Z370 chipset, processor and motherboard choice

Regarding this timing issues. It is all about VST performance. Say, good audio driver and audio card can work at 2-3 ms. latency with a more or less heavy project. Now imagine that a project have a couple of VSTs playing for some time (live, not offline rendering) and then suddenly about 100 of them...

Re: Z370 chipset, processor and motherboard choice

@CA_Steve I had a lot of time to think and read what you said, the manuals, etc. To my understanding what you said is, may I interpret it, just go for whatever you can afford. So to my understanding there is no advantages about i3 8100 besides the price. Again, a bit about the settings: I'm going to...

Re: Z370 chipset, processor and motherboard choice

Thank you so very much for replies. @CA_Steve - live playing, recording, mostly just one VI (Pianoteq plus some minor FX). It may seem an easy task, but I need it to be extremely reliable, low latency, no glitches, no anything ever. - 2 external audio channels for recording. - sometimes some more VI...

Z370 chipset, processor and motherboard choice

Hi, need some advice please. My points are: 1) silent build is the topmost priority 2) I'm not exactly on a tight budget 3) any Coffee Lake processor will do the job, but if there is no advantages regarding the heat I would go for more powerful/expensive model 4) it is worth noting that I need it fo...
