duron 600
I'm running a Duron 600 with an SLK-800A and a 80MM Panaflo L @ 5V and it's 'cold' (less than 40C under load).

Back to the topic at hand.. I might check out some more utils since I don't have any info on my hard drives.. Perhaps there are some probes I haven't been looking at. I'm measuring CPU temp with an external probe (yeah, a wire) that I have electrical taped near the base of my slk800a. Best I can do ...

mfc1 'really quick' review
As part of my first steps of silencing, I got an mfc1 and 4 l1a's. In short; it's working great, couldn't be better really. My only complaint was the cheap and easily broken metal brackets used to attach the mfc1 to my 5.25 bay.. I snapped one side and had to make a quick trip to the hardware store ...

measuring PSU 'health'.
I have a ~ 3yr old sparkle 300W PSU (fsp300-60GT) http://english.aopen.com.tw/products/power/fsp300gt.htm According to the above link, the PSU efficiency is between 65~70%, which is respectable but not great. How best to measure the health of the PSU after a mod? The stock fan was much louder (faste...

Another 'cleaning off old thermal stuff' question
Is there any consensus as to whether isopropyl alcohol ~91% purity (what I can easily buy) or mineral spirits (which I have handy) would be a better cleaner for replacing the heatsink on an existing Duron and an existing Geforce? I'm going to be using ceramique and the arctic silver page recommends ...

Sleeve Wiring? (what is it)
I was about the other the panaflo's off of case-mod.com
http://www.case-mod.com/store/product_i ... cts_id=600
But didn't know what 'sleeve wiring' under available options meant.
Anyone?

Your mileage may vary, but I'd say stupid. I tried doing this with my asus v6600 Deluxe last night, actually. This is one of those first gen GeForce cards. GPU temps generally are around 65C with heatsink and fan. With just heatsink it jumped to 80C, and that was no 3d. I'm probably going to look at...

Safe to run PSU when not hooked up to motherboard?
Guys- I've got two different PSUs that I want to test for noise (subjectively of course, no fancy equipment here). I was wondering if it's safe to mount them in my case, and connect up nothing except the AC power to the wall. Neither of them, by and stretch of the imagination are quiet, but I might ...

I just wanted to say thanks for all the information and links regarding this subject. It's been very helpful. In all I ditched the idea of going for the prosilence. Between the cost, extra power consumption, and having a hard drive (barracuda V) in the system anyway, figured the perceived DBA differ...

PFC suggestions
Are active PFCs a common feature in new PSU's? I was truly interested in the proSilence PSU until I saw the Verax review which discussed PFCs, and being interested in doing my part to help save the planet, steered away from that direction. I'm really leaning towards one of those 14dba ExoticPC PSUs....
