i was in the top 20 :( damn you all cheaters with more than one processor :P I accept your damnation, now that I broke the top 10 of SPCR (currently #9 and hot on MikeC's tail at #8). Admittedly, I have my home computer plus 4 more in the lab running, but [\on hyperrationalization] they would other...

Site moderators, would it be possible to append an announcement in the .sig line for *all* the various aliases in question (as has been done for digitalix)? If so, a link to this thread would also be appreciated. I believe a similar announcement should be indelibly appended to silentx alias. Why? As...

I'd love to get my hands on a 180gxp and put acoustic management on it. It will rape any seagate. Well, I have an 180gxp and have turned on the AM. It still chirps, but otherwise is quite quiet. Virtually inaudible at idle, relatively soft in seeks. It's 120 MB and seems plenty fast for my home mac...

A question on the Maxtor
Recently, EnvyNews reviewed the 160 MB Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 SATA (see this page ) and were quite ecstatic. The drive is rated 27 dB idle, 35 dB seek, though it's not clear if that is with or without any acoustic management options. These aren't bad numbers, but I'm not sure how to think about th...

We broke 100!
According to the official Folding@Home stats page (see http://folding.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/searchteamstats ), sometime before 5:07 EST, SilentPCReview Folding@Home team entered the top 100 folding teams. As a tribute to all of the team who contributed their cycles, let's celebrate with 3 minutes of ...

OK, I'll bite. Are you extrapolating that yourself using their numbers, or is there a tool somewhere that I'm missing? :| I looked at the immediate neighborhood and noticed no other team has similar point gain to SPCR or ComputerScience@SMSU. Thus, ComputerScience@SMSU is unlikely to materially mov...

Mayday, mayday
OK, I'll admit to keeping an eye on the stats. At the moment, SPCR is #107. According to http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/folding/ we will break into the top 100 on May 1 at 9AM. Happy Mayday, everyone.

The toys that do this are the ones that require you do put them on a floppy and boot off the floppy. I don't have the link for it (it's in another post around here somewhere), but I personally reccomend the Hitachi Drive Tools. See http://www.hgst.com/hdd/support/download.htm and scroll down to "Fe...

I've worried about this, as well. At work, I tend to buy/build performance-oriented machines (since we really need the cycles when doing recording, simulations, etc.). But, we're an acoustics lab and we like things quiet. At this point, I think the HVAC is consistantly the loudest thing we can't con...

OK, so how often does this nifty-doodle .siggie-thang get updated. Out on http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/folding, SPCR is ranked 126 with 45,545.08 points, while statsman shows 126 at 45,311.75, F@H itself reports 128 at 45966.8 (though it's +2 due to Google and anonymous), while the .siggie ...

Rusty: Curiously. I started running two copies on my P4 3.06 (nominally semi-dual processor). Each claims a machine ID of 1. This may be because there are not two physically seperate CPUs, or the F@H servers have not wized up to my conceit, or who knows. I couldn't find appropriate info at the F@H s...

I popped over to [H]ardOCP for another topic and decided to glance at their discussion about Folding and other distributed computing projects. There certainly seems to be quite a large (over 4200 Folding members) and vociferous crowd over there. They are team 33 and are ranked #3 at the moment (behi...

I started folding on Sunday (4 days). 6.5 WU later, my CPU seems pegged at 55C, MB at 32C+/-. A little warm, but reasonable for a 3.06 P4 with stock fan. I really need to change the CPU cooler, but have a few other fish to fry for a bit. I'm pleased to do my small part for science and the SPCR team....
