I don't think language skills are the explanation, since there are other Europeans who also speak English quite well, e.g. the Dutch, the Germans, some of the British ... :). Sure, but there's also the usual "market size" effect. French and german-speaking markets are big enough to have translation...

Re: another project MikeC is involved w/ Antec: A HTPC
Here's my wishlist (I'm sure others will follow) : 1. External PSU It all depends on how much gear you have under/around your tv/hifi, but for me the cable mess is incredible, and internal PSU would be preferable, Indeed, but another advantage of the brick is the ability to put this external source...

another project MikeC is involved w/ Antec: A HTPC
From another topic : BTW, there is another project I am involved in w/ Antec: A HTPC case. enuf said. You really think that's enough, eh ? Ok, from your other post, we know it'll be like a standard HiFi component, like the silverstone, and not a cube like the Aria. Chances are high that the H...

If there's a PSU fan, it's not totally fanless ;) I tried my P3-S 1.26GHz totally fanless (no PSU fan, nothing), in a closed environment (it's an HTPC). It booted and operated normally, but the temp was too high (70°C) so I didn't made any burn test and put one fan to cool everything. I would say th...

As the others said, the 2 60mm fans are to scrap. Also, I still don't get the interest of buying Intel Pentium 4 CPU if the goal is to have a fast & silent computer. If you plan to buy a new CPU, why not taking an Athlon64 ? They can surely handle HDTV, and produce a fraction of the heat. For the ca...

No, no, the one at the bottom of the page is female IDE and plugs directly into the motherboard. I should know, I have one know under my eyes ;) As for power, you need some power connector in a...

It's about 20% bigger as well Dimensions (W H D) Antec Aria 269 x 200 x 335 Silverstone SG01 263 x 210 x 393 But I would more worry about cramming all cables that come with standard ATX PSU into that small box. That would require serious cable-gami-fu or some smart cable mngt features on the PSU. [/...

Actually, in this case the hard drive is not anywhere in the main airflow path (it's in the upper front corner in an optical drive bay). That's okay, because it's a 2.5" drive and thus cooling it isn't a priority. [/quote] was just thinking of the pictures on top. As for putting a hole in the...

Which of the following is more efficient? 1. fresh air -> CPU -> hard drive -> exhaust or 2. fresh air -> hard drive -> CPU -> exhaust 1, no discussion, you even agreed [ok, ok, I'm pedantic on your question ;)] The former will indeed cool the CPU marginally more efficiently, but it will cook your ...

As crazy as it sounds, I believe the hottest part of my system is the nForce3 chipset, along with a few MOSFETs and ICs along the motherboard. This is why I was considering this intake duct, as it should direct airflow directly over these components. If that's really the case, then your ducting pla...

... or you can get a kill-a-watt and test your configuration with a normal 300W PSU to see how high it's running. Or is an P4 mobile with a good MB an option? I'm not an intel specialist, but by checking this , you have to choose carefully, the "mobile" P4 goes up to 100W. VIA is not an option for m...

* you reduced the cooling to one fan only, but using the wrong one :) the worst thing to do, imho, is to cool using the psu fan. that's because the psu generates a lot of heat itself, then circulating heated air from cpu through it... According to the SPCR test, efficiency for this PSU at the given...

Seems the first boards were the most difficult. AOpen has now a new pentium M motherboard, based on a i915. It seems perfectly tailored for an HTPC (even component out). Here's the press release and the product page . It is already in pre-orders for 104 € (80€ cheaper than the i85%). Quick Specs : S...

Samsung ML-1710 (printer) : noisy
The subject says it all, I got one of those cheap (85$) printer mostly because it had both USB & // ports.
And it's damn noisy, the motor ran for 1-2 minutes upon power up, and the noisy fan for 10 minutes afer printing 1 page
