I have the same problem in WinXP pro. Set my harddrives to turn off after 5 minutes. The backup drive, which is only accessed once every 3 hours to do a backup, powers up again after a few minutes. Perhaps this is because your backup drive has the swap-file on it? So when Windows caches something t...

I recently had the pleasure of building a system around an 8RDA+. The CPU was a 1700 JIUHB DUT3C running stock. Using a 12V 80mm L1A on an AX-7 attached with AS2, the CPU temp was only 2C over the system temp (28C and 26C, respectively). This was in an open case. These were the temps reported by th...

The celeron's limited cache cripples the netburst architecture in impressive ways. If there was some way to pop off the heat spreader, shortcut some connections, and change it from a celery to a pentium 4 C, I'd grab me one before Intel yanked them all off the shelves. Unfortunately under the heats...

1. I have not heard this issue about misread temps. Perhaps you need to upgrade your cooling? 2. Undervolting varies from CPU to CPU, generally you should only undervolt if you are not overclocking. However on the latest Athlons you can achieve a hefty overclock with stock voltage. 3. You would void...

It turns off my main drive (Maxtor) but dosent turn off the old one (Western Digital). interestingly, the Maxtor houses the OS I use most (and the one I am trying to get the HDDs to turn off in) and the WD has a tryout of Windows Server 2003 on it which I rarely use and barely access. Can Windows on...

Turning off two hard drives...
In windows I have it set to turn off my whiny Maxtor after 3 minutes. However it does not do this for my somewhat whiny aged WD 10GB drive. Is it because a 10GB 4200RPM drive would probably be too old for this? Thanks!

mine doesn't idle, so hah! I'm getting load of abuot 48 now, palomino 1800+. Athlon Powers- I know the Northwood P4s all have HT, but I don't think the wilamettes did, and I think thats what the celerys run... and I"m positive they don't have the extra cache. Cache takes up a lot of die space and a...

I've been running 1GB of Corsair XMS3200 at DDR400, CL2.5-3-3-7 for about a year in my P4 rig. It'll do Memtest86 100% stable at those settings but if I try any tighter timings it'll start getting a few errors. 1GB of RAM is really nice for stuff like Photshop and video editing. Yeah, I do both of ...

the main power of the p4 comes from it's cache and memory speed. Due to it's lower ipc rate and quad pumpded alu. Acutually all the CPUs Intel manufacturer have 512KB of L2 and HyperThreading ability. Unfortunately this has been locked and no groups have been able how to enable the additional featu...

DryFire : Well, im saying it's as fast as the new stock of HyperX at PC2700 speeds. I could slap the copper Thermalright heatsink on it and call it Kingston ValueX! They are quite snappy for business work and internet but otherwise (sorry about this) suck. But a 2.4Ghz Celery for under $90 aint that bad...see below. http://www.digitimes.com/NewsShow/Article.asp?datePublish=2003/05/26&pages=PR&seq=200 Pretty appealing for budget builders If I may say so... Rather than a ZM50, the ZM17 is probably a better bet. People have mentioned to me that the ZM17 is good enough even for 4600 with a 5-7V Panaflo, and it is actually more efficient (for size/weight) than the Zalman heatpipe heatsinks because it has fewer lossy thermal transition paths. (What I mean...

It's the Kingston ValueRAM that is on sale for $40 at BestBuy. KVR333/512R = 512MB PC2700 Retail Now I have 1GB! Currently it is running at tighest latencies at default speed, except for running with CAS 2.5 because CAS 2.0 causes my mobo to lock up. Now I'm trying to find out why BF1942 demo is stu...

I dunno, if you used this processor you might be able to get a passive cooling. Also if you undervolted it below 1.5v you would be even better off.
And if you want to OC some people can get a 100% OC with a good motherboard and cooling.
