I'm adding a 2nd HD to my PC and was wondering where I should connect it? Slave to the 1st HD (same IDE)? Or Master to the 2nd IDE? I also have a DVD burner and a CD-ROM. Does it even matter where and with what other component I connect it?

Why don't you just get a fanless PSU (laptop-style)? Check mini-box website (http://www.mini-box.com), they have a power simulator to size up your needs. I run the 60w one. Epia 5000, laptop HD and DVD rom drive. Total silence.

That's what I did. But before going down that path, better check that you have enough power. Look here http://www.mini-box.com Full size CD with 2 x full size HD might be a little too much for 60W I run it with an Epia 5000, a CD and a laptop HD (2.5in). Totally silent (no fan). Very good for file a...

I've got 2 SP80 PATA Spinpoint in 2 different PC. First PC also has a Seagate Barracuda V 120Gig. Both drive hover in the mid-30 , with the Seagate always 3-4 C over the Samsung (about 33-37 for the SP80 and 37-41 for the Bar V) As for my other SP80, it's in my HTPC with minimum airflow. And it hove...

Hummm, then there is something fishy about MY setup then. Got a Gigabyte mobo, SLK-800u cooler with a L1A, 2 PVR 250, same case, but with 2 exhaust fan. And running a P4-M 1.8 (at 1.2), which is supposed to have a max output of 30W (half of his celeron). and I got idle temps around 43C, case at 35C ...

if you look at the 7000 review http://www.silentpcreview.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=92&page=3 you can see that with a P4 2.53, it doesn't get below 40C (at idle). And the spec for your Celeron 2.6 are about the same 62W vs 61W for the P4). You can now u...

Got almost same setup as you. What I did to keep things cool and quiet: 1. Cut the grill right besides the 60mm fan to put a 2nd one. 2. Removed the unused PCI slot cover (between the 2 PVR cards) and put a 80mm fan between the HD and the end of the PVR cards. Pulling air around the HD, pushing it b...

External USB 2.0 hard drive enclosure. Any good?
I'm thinking of expanding my storage "Outside the box". Putting a Samsung SP80 or a Barracuda V 120Gb in an HD external exclosure (USB 2.0) would make it portable and outside of the heat of the case. How does it fare regarding performance? Is there any heat issues? More / less noisy than in a case? ...

I run a few PCs around the house and one of these is an "always on" machine with a laptop HD (IBM Travelstar). Pros: smaller, less heat, needs less power to run Cons: pricier, needs adapter to connect to IDE, slower than 3.5 hd But one thing is that it's not quieter. I also own Barracuda IV, V and S...

I'v had a T23 for the last 18 months (p3-mobile). And I got a new T40 (P-M 1.5) this week. The fan does come full soeed for a few seconds after bootup, but it's almost inaudible after that. And the hard drive is god send. No more high pitch sounds when seeking. And we finally got performance (5400rp...
