It seems quite a few SPCR readers - myself includet - would not agree with this: Quiet / Noisy Monitor SurveyIronically, the fact that they make no noise at all (with a few exceptions) takes them off our radar

How about mounting the fan with rubber grommets?
I did that when my fan was swaped for a Nexus, and have no vibration issues whatsoever. There are several threads on this, here is mine (slightly different subject, but look at the picture in the bottom of the first post).

Don't have any experience with the Seagate - or any other of their recent drives for that matter - but they appear to have a reputation for loud seeks. Someone else will have to confirm that though, I could have a wrong impression. Anyway, it will almost certainly be substantially louder than the me...

The Samsung HD502HI should fill your needs. As Mikes recent review documentet, it is very quiet and with a single 500gb platter also quite speedy. Based on his review I bought one of these last week, and can support the conclusion 100%. 1. Compared to other desktop drives: It is much more quiet that...

It should be no problem to solder if I can get the PCB out. From what I remember it looked like that might be a bit of a hassle though. Alternatively I could run a wire from the broken off corner to the chassis and then glue the corner on afterwards. However, if it turns out that the two intact corn...

Cracked PCB repair - is this safe?
I recently bought a NSK3480 with the EarthWatts380. Opened it up yesterday to swap the fan, and was just about finished when I discovered that two of the PCB corners had cracked off. http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/9093/0326.jpg I can't imagine that this happened while opening the unit, but the shipp...

Lenovo L2440X Completely silent in use at any brightness setting. A very faint buzz can be heard when I press my ear to the back of the monitor, but not a problem unless you plan to use it this way  Before purchasing I asked SPCR user strongbad about it, following this thread. The reply was t...

Anyone own a Lenovo L2440P?
Does anyone have experience with the Lenovo L2240P? Does it hum, buzz or whine? If so, how badly?
It's next on my try-out list, after NEC and Samsung have been disqualified.

Tried a NEC LCD2470WVX after two noisy Samsungs. Unfortunately, this one also emits a loud hum when brightness is reduced below about 90. Amplitude increases til about half brightness, where is levels off and is constant till 0. Not as much a buzz as the two Samsung 2443BW I tried, more just a hum, ...

It seems to stop completetly at 50% of brightness. It whines at 0% brightness and 100% brigthness but not at all at 45-55%. How normal is that? :) Perhaps quite normal, I've seen reviews of several different monitors mention noise at particular brightness settings. At work I got a new Dell 22" the ...

Anyone own a NEC LCD2470WVX?
Does anyone own a NEC LCD2470WVX 24" TN monitor? Not the more expensive W N X. If so, does it buzz/whine? There's not a whole lot of information about this model on the interweb. My attempt to purchase a 24" monitor has so far consisted of returning two Samsung 2443BW's due to excessive buzzing when...

Typing this from my second sample of a Samsung 2443BW . Both buzz when brightness is reduced below 97. Noise is clearly audible when sitting at a normal position in front of the screen, and this is even with quite a bit of streetnoise. So it's going back tomorrow, and the hunt continues. Incredibly ...

I recently bought this PCI SATA controller, which also features the SI 3114 chip, and the problem was the same as you described: WD10EACS works fine with onboard controller (Intel 865PE chipset), and the controller card works fine with other drives. Also tried setting the jumper to SATA 1 mode, with...

As for any difference between SATA I and II, you will to my knowledge not have any advantage as the higher bandwidth of SATA II is way above what a modern harddrive can deliver. For quiet drive recomendations, head over to the recomended section http://www.silentpcreview.com/article29-page2.html. Ch...

the hitachi 1.8" in the x41 thinkpad exhibits a loud periodic ticking noise when idle. this could possibly be resolved through firmware, as it is apparently a maintenance movement of the head to increase lifetime or something, don't quote me on that, think i read it in the forums at thinkpads.com an...

Samsung T133, comparative impressions
Hi all, Here are some impressions of a Samsung T133 HD300LD drive I bought last weekend. My references are a Samsung SP1614N (SATA, Nidec motor) and a Maxtor DiamondMax10 300GB (PATA). Drives are mounted in a P180, see bottom of post for system specs. Remember that my assesments of the T133 are base...
