thanks a lot guys for the responses. Sorry about my looooooooong delay. This hard drive enclosure remains an issue and a lot of people have voiced the opinion that I should just get rid of the fan as long as there's something in contact with it, which happens to be the case. It's a thin malleable sh...

Pentium M cooling: laptop mod

I have an Inspiron 600m and although the fan's quieter than I had expected, I still can't help but notice the fan when I leave the computer on while sleeping. Can someone recommend a good replacement fan for my system? I'm currently getting 39 C on average and 53 C on max load. Thanks.

critical temperature of hard drives

Hi, I was wondering how hot a hard drive should run before I should be concerned about finding additional cooling solutions. As of right now, dtemp reports my hard drive to be about 44 C, and is in red since dtemp's default setting for the critical temperature threshold is 41 C. I just remember hear...

I'm guessing that the hard drive's in full contact with the rest of the chassis of the enclosure since I can feel the heat on both sides(top and bottom) of the enclosure. But maybe that's not a good way to measure contact. If not, do you know if there's a version of d-temp that allows one to monitor...

looking for a quiet 30x30x10mm fan

can anyone recommend a fan with these dimensions for a hard drive enclosure? Mine turns out to sound like a jet engine. This is for a Maxtor Diamond Max 9 120 GB hard drive and I don't exactly know how hot it naturally runs so putting that into consideration, I'd appreciate any leads.

would an L1a be too weak for the TP? I'm considering modding it once the warranty is kaput since for such a "silent" psu, it sure is loud(even louder than my p4 box which is housed in a generic case w/psu). Thanks.

I just got this enclosure http://store.yahoo.com/akidacomputer/35exencomfir.html for my Maxtor 120 GB hard drive with a similarly sized and sounding fan as the one JBAlbany described. I'm wondering if I can just disable the fan or if I can find a silent alternative. And if I would have to undervolt ...

Re: so is there a verdict?

I was just wondering if the Seasonic reviewed on this is really better than the antec truepower when it comes to silence. Yes, mySeasonic samples are quieter: only one fan (instead of 2)and no coil whine. What is the nature of the noise you hear with the Antec? it's a high pitched whine that's soft...

so is there a verdict?

I was just wondering if the Seasonic reviewed on this is really better than the antec truepower when it comes to silence. I know that this wasn't the point of comparison between the two, but I'm just a bit disappointed at my truepower purchase. I dunno if this calls for modding my psu with a spare p...

I have three of these running at 12v and I tried the "2 ft test" that I've heard mentioned a good number of times which involves standing 2 feet away from the cpu to see if there is any noticeable noise. Unfortunately, the results were disappointing as I heard the high-pitched hum I heard about. Eve...

Has anyone noticed a difference in rattling in a case depending on the way stand-offs are screwed in a case(eg. using all of the standoffs, arrangement thereof)? I haven't used up all of my standoffs just because I don't have enough holes on my motherboard but maybe the standoffs could be used to da...

I wholeheartedly agree with you, seeing as how I based my purchase of the antec plus660 on these reviews. Maybe I can mod my antec true power that will come with the case like the enermaxes if things don't work out.

I work with audio and I was told that screen redraws can be severely compromised with the wrong video card so I thought I could opt for the geforce2, which I was told wasn't that impressive when it comes to 2d purposes, which is the type of environment I'm going to work with mostly. Instead I was to...
