Just got a Spinpoint 1614N...

...and its got a JVC motor - ARRRGH!!! Now I've read all the talk about how noisy these motors can be so I was about to send it back to ebuyer (dont laugh) when I thought 'what the hell - lets try it anyway' to see just how bad these drives really are. So I unpackaged it, placed it on a block of foa...

Will be interesting to see how the new samsungs stack up against the new Seagate 7200.8 drives coming out soon. The timing couldn't be better as I'm looking to upgrade my hard drive in the very near future - 120Gb just aint enough anymore

Yep I think your'e absolutely right *sighs*. Just to highlight this fact, I can't think of any system builder here in the UK that uses any form of noise-reducing components in their machines, let alone actively market those features. Why would they need to? The average Joe Public is more interested ...

Interesting...I was looking at the Nexus 3500 for my next PSU upgrade but a number of people here have mentioned that the 4090 is even quieter. KustomPCs in the UK sell both PSUs (only £8 difference between the two) so I may opt for the 4090 instead. Davidstone28 let us know your opinions also, once...

Is it me or does anyone else find the cases displayed in the article are just plain ugly? It seems from the article that manufacturers are using aesthetic gimmicks like fancy front bezels that look like something out of the Transformers to differentiate their products rather than the important featu...

What about something like the Sunbeam Rheobus fan controller? I believe that operates in the 0-12V range and its less than £20 here in the UK. You could then drop the voltage to under 5V easily whilst still having the power to increase/decrease the voltage on the fly.

Hi Nutball - many thanks for that info - that was very informative :D

I'm tempted to try the Silenx 120mm fan available from Kustom PCs in the UK - a bit pricey though at £17! But I guess you get what you pay for

The 120mm Silenx fan is stated as having an airflow of 58CFM at 1800rpm and only 14dBA. Is this correct? Seems a little optimistic to me :o

I noticed that a number of Jeantech cases are also available under other brands (Super Flower, TTGI etc). I'm guessing they are made by some OEM manufacturer and then rebranded by the likes of Jeantech etc. So I wouldn't be surprised if this case showed up under a different brand in other parts of t...

Weyhey! Thanks very much for the photos timc3 . Usual price is £39 so worth snapping up sooner rather than later if anyone is in two minds. My...

Thanks timc3 for the updates. I'm glad to hear that there is minimal or no hard drive vibration in the case as the fixed cage structure means that suspension is not an option :( Looking at the temps you mentioned I think the case has very good airlfow so my doubts about the effectiveness of the fron...

I think with the first one, it was a case of you either love it or hate it, with this new one I cant see any loving!

Strangely enough, Evesham Micros (a well-known PC manufacturer in the UK) have standardised on the first Gaming Bomb case - must be for its decent airflow

Heres them making the xpider case uglier which is quite an achievement considering how ugly the first one was. What a shame.

Custom PC magazine have a review of this case in the latest issue of their magazine. They concluded it was a very good case for the money with plenty of low-flow cooling potential. Unfortunately I didn't have a huge amount of time to properly examine the case but I did note that the rear fan grills were definitely very 'open' and unrestrictive. New quiet case...looks promising

I came across this case at my local PC World today - called the 'Phong'. It looked fairly average from the exterior but when I opened it up I was pleasantly surprised to find the following: - 120mm fan mounted in both the front and rear of the case (supplied) - CPU duct attached to a blowhole in the...

Yeah the improvement in motherboard temps is certainly a nice by-product of the duct. Maybe its due to the fact that the duct itself is open mesh so a small part of the incoming air is escaping through the duct 'walls' and cooling the innards of the case?

Whats the noise like though now that you have the hole in the side case panel?

Also (stoopid question) is your CPU fan sucking or blowing (I presume its blowing from your description and pulling cold air from the outside).
