Supplied fan not too bad

The heatsink has arrived, and like I suspected there doesn't seem to be an easy way of fitting one's own fan since, as the article says, the fan is rather oddly shaped. However, I can report that the supplied fan gets really rather quiet once you slow it down just a little bit. The default speed see...

Different fan

I might have missed something, but can one use a different fan with this heatsink or does one have to use the one that comes with it? I was thinking of getting this and putting a Nexus 92mm on it (the unit only costs £11 from ebuyer, and I have some spare fans lying around). Or would the temperatur...

Woops sorry, I meant a 12V-5V switch! It's quite odd really... It has only happened a handful of times as well. I think I'll pretend it never happened ;)

12V/7V switch behaving strangely

Hey there, I followed the 12V/7V switch building guide to switch some fans between 12V and 7V. I've got 2 fans connected to it: a panaflo and a zalman. It works really well, but there's just one problem - sometimes when I switch from 12V to 7V, my screen goes black for an instant, and then re-appear...

Thermal compound application

Just a quick question:
Where should you apply thermal compound on the heatsink? I just put it on the area of the CPU that is slightly raised. Is this right?

UK place to buy cheap electronics?

Does anyone know of a good cheap place to buy computer cables and accessories in the UK? ATM I'm looking for IDE power connectors, of the type mentioned in Mike's 12V -> 5V article, and the only thing I can find is a Maplins IDE extension cable, which is £1.49! Surely there must be a cheaper place? ...

My drive usually hangs around 45 C, and during 100% CPU load it goes up to about 50 C. I don't think this is too good, since the maximum the vendor recommends is 55 C. Might it be worth putting a panaflo directly above the drive, or something like that? Cheers, Oz P.S. 51 C max. CPU temp is ok after...

Mine came this morning as well :D. I like it! I'd say 7 or 8 out of 10 for noise (so far). Anyone know any good programs to test stability of the system (recording temperatures as it performs different tasks etc.)?

For the cheaper model at silicon acoustics:

I interpreted this as "it doesn't have PFC at all". But does it still have passive PFC?

David - where in the UK are you buying it from? I want to buy one as well, but can't find any good sites! Also, do you know any places to buy Alpha heatsinks (overclockers.co.uk seem to have been out of stock for 3 months)?

Thanks,

4 fans for Oz is that right? Hey, if it's not too late, make it 5! May as well splash out! ;) And with so many fans the shipping will be just over $1/fan anyway, not that bad. Exactly! The shipping will be split 4 ways (or however many people there are), and then divide that by the number of fans! ...

Do you have a PayPal account? Otherwise I have some friends in Sweden who could transfer the money to you. I'd really appreciate it since they're so expensive over here. BTW, 42kr ~ £2.5, not £25. Had me worried there for a second :).

Otherwise, if no-one else from the UK is interested, perhaps I could join in the Swedish venture? I don't think it would cost much to send from Sweden to the UK (about 75kr I should think would do it). I only need around 4 fans. And there would be no customs to pay since it's in the EU.
