I almost did the "lazy jerk" thing and posted asking what the changes are in 4.0. In contrition, I went to the F@H site and looked for myself. Here are some highlights: - Configurable minimum checkpointing frequency (3-30 minutes). (In GUI, controlled with a slider.)* - If client run with verbosity ...

Hehe, yeah, I've asked. The problem is that we received these computers from the Gates Foundation and until April, they have control over what we can install on them. They do not want any distributed processing programs running for security and compatibility reasons. Heck, I can't even put on MS pa...

Many of the lower-end Nvidia cards are fanless, too. Check out the GeForce4-MX 420 and the FX5200 cards. You didn't mention what you'd be doing with your system, though. If you want a fast, fanless card for gaming, maybe the Radeons would be a better idea. I really don't know. I'm working on water c...

Does he have a PC? 8) Yesterday my wife mentioned the electric bill jumping about 30% in the past month or so. Soon, though, both of my kids will have overclocked XP2500s running on my ex-wife's electric bill! I'm planning on upgrading all of my machines here to faster CPUs as dollars perm...

For the reference pics of MikeC (heheheh, Mike), you can check him out in all of his heavenly silent glory in a past issue of PCWorld (it was on do-it-yourself, easy/improvement stuff for PCs)...anyone know the issue (of course, if MikeC REALLY doesnt want a 3D model, then nevermind :D )? Sorry Mik...

Spectacular work! I originally blew past it with just a quick glance thinking, "OK the guy bought a PanaFlo and took a professional-grade photo of it, big deal." Then I read more closely and looked at it again. The "imperfection" of the label is what threw me, I think. Very well done. What did you u...

As an ex-Overclocker (who's still in therapy) I'd have to say "no" from a seat-of-the-pants feel. You'll probably never notice it except on benchmarks. If you're thinking of using that Corsair LL memory on a P4 875/865 board be careful. It's one of the most problematical types of RAM for those boar...

Stats are fun! Thanks for the work, David. Individual battles are fun, too. Zyzzyx and I have been swapping positions back and forth for a little while. I have a slight lead at the moment, but that could switch again today. We need more little battles like this to keep SPCR over 10K/day as a team. S...

Sounds like lots of negative things all hit around the same time. I took my 2nd fastest machine (XP2000 laptop) with me on vacation for the past week. Heh. Borged my ex-wife's 2GHz P-III(IV?) yesterday. That's my fifth machine, too, but I'm not sure how much it's on. The kids say it's on fairly often. I've been using continuous folding as a break-in as I'm slowly overclocking my new XP-2500 system. Since I'm still using the stock HSF (YUCK!) I'm taking it slowly and watching the temperatures. Once the watercooling goodies are available (pump is out of stock) I'll WC it and the ramp up on that box...

Whooooa! I just got a 2500 thingy WU, guess that will take a couple more days. Not necessarily. I've found that when I get 2500 frame WUs, my "frame rate" goes up by 2.5 or 5 or 10X or something like that. If you have Electron Microscope, it will tell you how fast you're running frames and when the...

Stanford says he has 60 active CPUs. In the most recent 3-hour block he uploaded 7 WU for 426.00 (again with the ".00") points. That's almost 61 points/WU. I just noticed that his (or her) upload at 12:00AM was 2 WU for 142.00 points - 71.00/WU average again! He must be a master borger! His trend li...

Interesting bit looking at Slo-Tech's production numbers. They're just above us in the 3 hour score, ~1200 to our ~900 (depends on the day). But, and this is the wierd part, they're doing 1/4 of the work units. Where we're doing ~110 WU, they're doing ~25 WU, and getting more score. Wassup widdat? ...

One explanation could be that that a server was down at stanford on sunday so some WU results could not be returned. SPCR is yellow!
We've put up over 10000 points in the past 24 hours! I know that my score yesterday was quite a bit higher than normal, and it looks like many people have "past 24 hrs" scores that are considerably more than 1/7th of their "past 7 days" scores. Anyone know what happened? Did a bunch of high-points, ...
