BTW, did someone had a chance to compare 3 and 4 platter versions side by side? Is there any significant difference in noise, vibrations and speed? There's a thread in here comparing the three and four platter versions of the WD10EACS and there was a performance boost with the three platter version.

The "Great Zero Challange" (http://16systems.com/zero/index.html) has thus far gone unaccepted.
One would think any of the data recovery companies would be interested in the national attention that defeating it would bring.

Saphire put out a 4850 with a stock Zalman cooler on it and the temps seem to be much improved.

You stopped doing exhaust solutions, and that's when you lost me forever. I haven't followed things too closely, but was very disappointed by the SPCR reviews of the initial exhaust coolers from Arctic Cooling. They were always deemed too loud and stupidly used a transparent plasic fan for increase...

My experiences with the NeoHE PSU in the P150 have been a little different than most, it seems. I built a PC in December 2005 using this case/PSU. The MB was an Abit AN8-SLI. My PSU had a serial number of S0509... I put the system together and everything worked fine. I did some stress testing of the...

I'm hardly an expert on the decoding of mpeg video, but my guess is that current dual core processors might be marginal for this task. The dual core might let the system do other things at the same time very well, but the actual decoding task would sit on one processor running too slow. I'm no expe...

Mobo Fan Speed Control (Abit EQ) Work as Advertised?
I'm putting together a new system build and naturally I have some Zalman Fan Mate controllers on the list of required parts. I was reading a review of the motherboard I'm planning to get (Abit AN8-SLI) and there were some very nice looking options in the FanEQ section. It looks like the voltage can ...

JVC Motors on Samsung 200GB & 250GB Spinpoints
There has been some speculation that Samsung is no longer using JVC motors on its newer drives. As you may know, Microcenter sells Spinpoint drives in clear plastic cases and the motor is visible. While I was there, I took inventory of what they had: 250GB SATA: 14 250GB PATA: 11 200GB PATA: 18 Tota...

Very Unhappy with PATA T7K250 250GB
For reference, my case is an SLK3700AMB and my current drive is an 80GB Seagate Cuda IV. I'm not 'hardcore' as I actually have the AAM on this drive set for maximum performance. Based on favorable feedback within these forums and the review of the 7K250 model, I picked up a PATA 250GB T7K250 drive. ...

Can anyone who has the BenQ 1640 confirm it's behaviour when watching DVDs? I know many drives have a "riplock" feature that default the drive to 4X when reading DVDs in order to keep it quiet. I wonder if the whine you are hearing could be from either: 1. The PSU or 2. The motherboard. The motherboards I've seen with failing capacitors would make a high-pitch whine when there was enough power draw on the system. But, I guess if you can attach your old 7200.7 and there is no noise with the...

If making quiet drives is a high priority for Samsung, why would they continue to use JVC motors? High-pitch whining is the worst of the worst when it comes to hard drive noise. The use of two motors like this makes it practically impossible to order a Samsung drive online as most vendors will not g...

I have a P4 @ 2.1GHz. Previously I had problems playing 720p and 1080i mpeg2 clips, but since I've got PureVideo working on my 6600GT with the latest drivers and the NVidia DVD Decoder, those clips play fine. For xvid at HD resolutions, I was able to obtain smooth playback by switching from the xvid...

The AGP version of the 6600 GT also has a heatsink over the bridge chip. I have no idea if this would interfere with mounting a Zalman cooler. From the pictures, it looks like the heatsink on the bridge chip is not taller than any of the capicters on the board. If that's the case, the cooler should...

Cooler Master CoolViva VHC-L61 - Possible 6800 Solution
Currently the Zalman GPU heat pipe cooler does not seem to be compatible with Geforce 6 cards as this note is on the Zalman web site: "This product is not installable on an nVidia GeForce 6800 GT, 6800 Ultra because they do not have 3mm holes around the GPU." Cooler Master has put out a GPU heatpipe...

There's a couple of things working against you here. First the Zalman web site states that its heatpipes are not compatible with the Geforce 6 series due to the lack of mounting holes in the correct location. Add to that the slanted design and I think the chances aren't that promising that any exist...
