Seasonic SS-300FS L1A died
Hi guys, Just to update this two year old post, my L1A modded Seasonic SS-300FS PSU died the other day. I think the strain placed on it over the 2 years finished it off. It used to take ever increasing numbers of power-on button presses to start up until it eventually didn't start at all. Had to rep...

Seasonic SS-300FS L1A Success Story
Hi guys, It's been ages since I've posted on SPCR, but I love what goes on here and do keep up with developments. The old stock Adda in my Seasonic SS-300 really wasn't that great. It had a whoosh which certainly wasn't silent by any means. This morning I finally got around to swapping out the Adda ...

Seasonic SS-300FS Fan Change
Hi everyone, I'm currently using a Seasonic SS-300FS. With millions of thanks to SPCR, my computer is now much much quieter than before. This PSU is the last thing to quieten down. My rig currently has no case fans. I've undervolted my 1600+ and am running CPUidle so CPU temps are 31C idle, rising t...

Sony DRU-510A and DRX-510UL Speed Utility
Hi everyone, Just noticed a new speed utility for Sony DRU-510A and DRX-510UL drives here: http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/dru510adwn.htm The blurb says: "DSS (Drive Speed Selector) is Sony software that allows you to optimize the read/write speed of your DRU-510A and DRX-510UL DVD/CD rewritabl...

Seasonic 300W -
I remember MikeC told me a few days ago that Active PFC Seasonic PSUs were slightly louder than those with Passive PFC. I understand you can identify which you have by a small sticker on the back of the Actice PFC PSUs. Well, I bought my Seasonic OEM from www.koolnquiet.co.uk and it doesn't have a s...

Right, an update: I've installed CPUidle which has dropped case temps by about 10C, unplugged the GF2 fan and its temps are ~62C idle. I don't play games much so this looks fairly good. I'm happy running it like this and if it dies I'll get a new card. Thanks for all the advice guys. GF 440MX will b...

pingu666, I'll take a photo and post it up as soon as I can. My dad's taken our digicam for the w/e though. POLIST8, I tried disconnecting the fan again last night, and temps were 65C idle. I think they're this high, even on a GF2, because it's a fairly suped up GF2 - it's the 440 MX version. lenny,...

Fan switched off but still attached = higher temps?
Hi everyone, I've got an Inno3d Tornado Geforce 2 MX. I'm trying to get rid of the noisy fan on it. When I pull out the power cable on the fan but leave it attached, the temps rise to about 70C, according to the Soltek thermal probe. Will actually removing the fan make a big difference? It's just th...

Hi everyone, My card is an Inno3D GF2 MX440. It's got a little whiny fan. I measured the temps with the external sensor on my Soltek DRV4 mobo. They rose fairly slowly to 70C with no CPU load but I guess that might be understandable since I have no case fans but just a CPU and PSU fan. I then tried ...

Thanks for the replies everyone. SAounds like your Seasonic is a non-PFC version. If so, it uses a sleeve bearing fan that is 2-3 dBA quieter than the ball-bearing ones used in ther APFC models. MikeC, how do I find out which model I have? I'll digest all these replies and post back maybe tomorrow. ...

Ten questions
Hi everyone, I’m just back from university and have some spare time and energy. I’ve got ten questions about silencing my computer. I’m living in the UK. Oh & please don’t destroy me if I’ve missed a previous answer somewhere! Here’s my current rig: Athlon 1600, undervolted to 1.6V Zalman 6000-Cu fl...

Just undervolted, shaved a coupla degC
Hi guys, I've been a member of SPCR for a while now but haven't posted much. Just to let you know that I've undervolted my (multiplier locked) XP 1600+ from 1.75V to 1.60V on my Soltek DRV4 without any trouble at all and shaved a couple of degrees. Still at default clock speed. Hehe, I was a bit ner...

Hi guys. Just out of interest, why have you both used NMB fans? I thought Panaflos were generally acknowledged to be the quiestest, though I've been out of touch with the forum for a while... How difficult is the mod? And doesn't it make you wonder why Seasonic don't just stick a quieter fan on in t...

Miker, do you think you could describe the sound differences between the Nexus & Seasonic a bit more please?
What is the difference in quality of the sounds? Is the difference very much?
I just slapped down £50 for the Seasonic and am wondering whether to splash out for the Nexus. What do you think?

Ooh, that case is veeeery nice. And very expensive! What colour are you going for? I don't know as much as some members here but I would say: 1) You're not dreaming and it won't burn up. 2) The CPU fan will prolly need to be at not less than 7V. The case fans might be OK at 5V, or you could get a co...
